On my hammering rides of 50 miles, my highest average is still below 17 mph, and that's with much less climbing as well.

Sorry, just testing my keyboard. I spilled coffee on it.

Sunday we skipped Palomar and did that 56mile loop I took you guys on July 4th, our average was 16.8 and 4800ft of climbing. We made up speed on the DH and didn't go up "Mt Murder". My buddy broke a spoke 30 some miles into the ride which sucked( that bumpy DH coming down Rainbow to the 76).

thanks for the kind words:D to me the numbers are deceiving though compared to other yrs. Doens't help when I had 2 jobs for most of the yr either. That really cut into my riding time. But that will all change next week.

Ok, for those of you who have some kind of color fashion sense, i need some halp...
Orange framed SS/fixed cross bike. What color bar tape and rims would look funky but still cool? I'm thinking lime green rims but am unsure what bar tape color i should go with... I already did pink. Blue perhaps? Or even celeste green? :D

I am such a stats geek....it's ridiculous...my computer pooped the bed for a couple of days and it was driving me crazy...although the last crit i did all i had was HR...no cadence, no speed no nothing...
I love numbers too, but it's oddly refreshing to ride my Allez once in a while, where there's no cyclocomputer. On a trainer, I'll count pedal strokes and watch a clock to determine cadence and calculate wattage, but out on the road, I don't wear a watch.
Anyway, people who write buggy scientific software should be shot.

I just ride w/ a low level HRM, most of my rides I've routed on Bikely.com already so I know roughly the milage. I just ride as fast as I can at a comfy HR for as long as I can. Been helping me ride at my LT longer on the climbs before blowing up. I'm still outa shape, so when I blow up I get massive side cramps.
I think it was related to all the booze I drank in the summer months bowling.
I plan to do alot more road racing next yr, not only crits this time around.
Crash716
10-02-07, 03:52 PM
My LT is much higher than when i get "uncomfortable" and i oddly carry a really high HR most the time when riding...resting is really low, something like 39-42bpm...but i'll cruise at 155-165 without hardly working...on climbs like long climbs i'll be over 172ish for like an hour at a time.
jsigone
10-02-07, 04:07 PM
I ride around 165ish on normal comfy stuff, gets into the low 170's on more effort on the flats and smaller hills. I ride 182-184 pushing it on hills or 25+mph on the flats. I blow up at 188-189. I fly on the DH while pedaling at 12x-13x bpm. Long DH like GMR or Palomar I can even get into the 11x bpm range. I feel REAL relaxed on the decents even though I pedal my ass off to go 50+mph
Lately I've been trying to maintain 178-182 on the climbs for as long as I can at en effective cadence. Sunday I manage to hold 13mph (182bpm) on W lilac from the base to the school hill top, normal days I'm at 9-10mph. Helps having my buddy behind me keeping the pressure on too, knowing he can pass if he wishes.

:( I'm on the phone with my Primary right now. They are scheduling an xray for my knee (and for my chest as I have to go see my new pulmonary specialist for a standard checkup) this Friday (I hope or else it will be next week before I can get in). I hate HMOs - HATE THEM. Unless I go to Urgent care or the emergency room, I have to take all these steps just to get stuff checked. Sigh. By the time I get the xray, the pain will likely be gone.

I hate HMOs too. The quality of service has dropped tremendously over the past 20 years. Plus I got a notice that my monthly fee is going up $200 on January 1.

 That's awful, Frank. But personally I cannot afford PPO. It is so expensive, it's shocking. But HMOs suck for service. I like my Primary (I didn't for awhile, but now I do). She's pretty matter of fact, and she is just following protocol dictated by Blue Cross. She has to see me first before sending me anywhere else. Truth is, my knee is probably just fine (I don't over-react actually and I really don't feel I need to see a specialist), but the whole "get an xray first thing" drives me nuts.

I'm hoping my Kaiser premiums aren't going up by that much......I'm already paying slightly under $700 per month just for my wife and I. If it ever did go up by that amount in a year I'm cancelling my Kaiser account and going county.

Wow, health care is so expensive. I always question some doctors' tactics of asking whether you have health care or not, then deciding on the type of treatment. Some suggests useful alternatives (heal faster?) but some are seemingly useless to me (but I'm not a doc).
I used to have a dentist once that tried to hard-sell me on teeth whitening procedures. One is to file down my existing teeth and put a mold in the front, another way is to bleach it really well, and last to completely replace it... and I only went there for annual check-up! All have bad after effects. Maybe my teeth are truly nasty so he recommends taking drastic measures?

Oh, no. I've met you. You have a nice smile and nice breath. I wouldn't let the dentist talk you into any of those procedures. :)
