I cannot believe you posted a pic of a bird's tail feathers. Disgusting.

what's funnier to me is that you couldn't resist to look at it...even though you knew it would be a bird butt and or sex organ...that's right...i said sex organ.

Couldn't resist? Why would I, when you and Mo are giving such a thorough animal-sex-education crash course today? I really didn't know all that about birds and whales.

But that bird's butt is disgusting. Couldn't you have found a sexier pic?

Fact!

The term 'Bumping Uglies' comes from Darwin observing the reproductive actions of Finches.

True Story.

I mean, 'true' in that I made it up.

I am too. Took the day off. Went for a 60 mile ride this morning with M. She's a teacher and has the week off (and is turning into a STRONG rider!). Unfortunately now the plumber that was supposed to come install our tub today hasn't shown up :-(

Oh, and I did my first triathlon Saturday.

Re: the tri - Finished about what I expected - slow swim, decent bike, not that great a run. Time was 1:01 something for an odd distance - 500m swim (measured in "looks like" fashion apparently), 12 mile bike, 2 mile run. I didn't wear a watch, don't have a computer on the TT bike yet, and results haven't been posted yet and may not be for a while (but hey, it was a free race...), so I don't have my splits.

My TT position needs work - I know need to get my hips rotated forward more to get rid of my hunchback, but the "boys" were NOT happy with the saddle tilt and riding in soggy tri shorts that have seen better days. But I still passed a LOT of people on the bike leg, which felt good. And the breakfast spread they had afterwards was AWESOME! I should have joined this group a LONG time ago :-)

I had an interesting weekend. Saturday, I went to the funeral of a man who died too young. Abused his body for too many years. Sunday, I attended a birthday ride and party for a gentleman who is now 85 years young (we rode 85 km in honor of this event). At one point in his life, about 4 years ago, he was the oldest man to ever finish an ironman distance triathlon. (His name is Bill Bell, all triathletes should know his name).

I guess what I'm saying folks, is keep doing what you are doing. It is so worth it. Plan to ride on your 80th b'day. :)

Good morning Dave.

I had a really long and detailed dream last night about swimming. I was swimming for miles and miles, and my stroke felt good and strong. Then I bonked somewhere in Solvang and had to somehow swim my way back. When I woke up, I realized I hadn't had a workout at all!

Plus, I overslept so can't get to the pool anyway. If I don't get there before 4:30am, all the lanes are taken.

Good morning Joy and Dave! I am supposed to meet M at Fiesta Island for about an hour to work on getting her comfortable on her new tri bike. Then I have to head to work, then come home early afternoon for the tub installers.

My knee is bugging me after my ride yesterday. I think I may have some cleat positioning issues. My right knee swings in at the top of my pedal stroke, which makes me think I may need some add some shims to adjust my foot tilt.

it is the fog that is blanketing LAX that has me worried... if that extends inland it could make for a scary commute... I have re-discovered that people in this town do not know how to drive in normal conditions, so any kind of weather makes everything that much scarier...

the route this morning... 133 to the 5 to the 57 to the 10 or 210 and over to the 605... I don't want to chance getting to the 605 and having that be a 3 hour traffic jam....

Maybe I'll get to take a long lunch and do East Fork...

BTW, Congrats on your tri!

My knee has been acting up since I fell on it in late July (stupid low speed crash in the dirt lot at Fiesta Island). I've had it X-rays and an MRI, and there is no meniscus tears. The Dr. seemed to think it was brusing and tendonitis in the hamtring tendon where it attaches to the lower leg. It almost feels like IT Band pain, but slightly lower. I just recently noticed that my left knee tracks up and down straight when pedalling, but my right knee has a out and in wobble at the top of the stroke. I'm now trying to decide if I want to spend $250 for a John Howard bike fitting...

Thanks. The tri was fun. Nice and low key event, but very well run. Some of the big name pros like Kate Major are known to come out and do these club races as tune-ups for upcoming races. And did I mention free (for club members)? I won't clutter up this thread with pics, but I do have a few here (http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w132/packethead/tri_club_race_20071117/?action=view&current=4d552834.pbw).

Mark,

Instead of spending $250 on a bike fitting, do a few drills where you focus on pedaling with your right knee tracking up and down in "correct" form. You may be able to train yourself to pedal in a way that doesn't cause you pain.

More BS than Analyst nowadays...
This mornings commute only took me 1:35, and 45 minutes of that was sitting on the 5 between the 57 and the 605... I was stupid and took the 605 route (contrary to my original post) because traffic on the 5 was moving great... until the LA border... :(

Generally, the commute is only about 1:10 to 1:20...

Just to clarify, the only place I see the knee wobble when the pedal is going over the top of the rotation. It's like it's "hunting" for the proper position to apply the downward force. That's what has me thinking mechanical alignment may be the issue (hey, I'm a mechanical engineer by education...what can I say?).
