Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just came back from Target. It was a zoo in there.
(I won't bother to post my new hairdryers in the Shopping Thread. They're a tax write-off.)
I'm headed there now. Well, the Glendale Mall anyway. I have to buy an outfit for tomorrow as I'm just not in the mood to wear any of my stuff. I want a new frock. Only not from Target and not from Macy's either. I tried on their ugly dresses yesterday. What is with the asymmetrical dresses that give zero shape? Yuck. No one can possibly find those appealing. With my IBTs, I just looked like can of sardines in those silly things. I think I'll check out Express, Guess and Banana Republic. I hope none of those stores are a zoo.

I had chocolate chip cookies for lunch today.
Very little nutrition in that, Jim. Perhaps you should now have some string cheese for protein.

That's because you are a size zero, fatso. I, who am morbidly obese, am a size most definitely not zero. My God, I'll never get those 3.5 hours of my life back. Everything looked awful, and I have no idea how to wear the stupid new styles. Who the hell came up with wearing a dress over jeans? WHO?! Cause I'd like to pull that idiot aside and explain to him (who must hate women but not gay - as no gay man would dream up such a horrid fashion combination - or shall I say, TRASHion combination) that this particular combo is not only hideous but butt ugly to boot. And don't get me started on the patterns on the dresses out there. How about a simple dress in a normal color? Mustard is NOT a color, damnit! It's a condiment. After 3.5 hours of trying on one laugh/cry inducing nightmare after another, I settled on buying a black shirt that shows cleavage. YES, I KNOW I don't have any of that, okay? But, by God, I'm putting the miracle bra on tomorrow and squashing those little tomatoes all up to my chin! If anything, my friends will wonder how my IBTs got so big since they last saw me.
I would rather pull my teeth out with pliers than clothes shop. (note: shoe shopping not included in this rant. Shoes never disappoint and I can try on strappy sandals till the cows come home)

Taking a break from cooking...
Turkey is soaking in brine
4 pumpkin pies made (one tofu based)
1 chocolate cream pie made (tofu based)
Cheese Rolls made (recipe from the Cheese Board in Berkeley )
Sourdough croutons for stuffing done.
still have to make apple pies tonight, and maybe prep the stuffing.
My little sister arrives early and after I pick her up I'm going to chain her to the stove, maybe while I go for a ride.
I had a minor crisis last night when I went to look for the big roasting pan and only found the bottom. Apparently my mom filled it with packaged leftovers last year (she denies everything) and sent it with my friend's girlfriend at the end of the night. Since nobody who lives here knew (the GF lives in Wisconsin), it didn't get figured out until I thought for a while about what might have happened-- lots of family and friends come through and hide things. I learned last night that Target is open late until thanksgiving, but they don't carry much Graniteware anymore.

While I don't usually callout books of this nature, this book has something special
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/510M1NX4ZKL._AA240_.jpg
Available at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Bicycling-Los-Angeles-County-Guide/dp/0897329503/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195699201&sr=8-1)
What makes this book exceptional is the cover shot is not even in Los Angeles County. It is not even in a county adjacent to Los Angeles County. UMD, Danno, Cassave, and Vance will recognize it immediately.

I'm headed out early AM on Sunday. Been here since Saturday. Having been humbled on what most of ya'll would likely consider a short little kick upwards, I'm inspired to do some heavy training over the winter.

You really should try to hit Mulholland before you leave. It is so close to you and you might enjoy it.
See my "what I've learned in SoCal" thread and see what climbs I did find. I'll do Mullholland one day, no doubt about that, but probably not this trip. My cardio system just doesn't have the capasity to get me to the top without exploding. Legs felt good, other than my right knee twanging just a little. Waiting to see if I tries to tighten up on me later. Been keeping it moving some to hopefully prevent that.

Have you considered staying out here for a year or longer and get yourself mountain ready? Better yet, just move here.

Cuda, I suck. :( I should have had you come ride with me.
I hope to start making regular trips down to Austin to work on climbing. It was one of my goals this year to work on my climbing, but surgery really stood in the way of that. My club does have a regular hill climb ride that I'll be looking into in the spring. About as good as climbing gets in Dallas.
merider, you don't suck. I've seen some of your ride reports. :p I did break the news to my wife that I"m buying a carbon frame though. She didn't threaten me with the lack of Thanksgiving dinner on the spot. So I figure that's a good sign.

I do stand in front of the mirror, but not dressed in a kit. Generally, I'm naked, looking at the butt wishing it wasn't "kicking" as much as it is at present.:p
