Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

the LOOK is a great bike, prolly a better frame then the FELT, but the Felt won on parts. Congrats to his new purchase. Is he still riding the rental?Yeah. It has reached a point where the daily rental price is the same as the weekly rental, so he'll keep it for the rest of the week. :)

Enough about that! Where's the CLX! Where!

I found out the steerer tube is really long uncut; so I'll be bringing it to a bike shop tomorrow. At first I thought I'll do it myself... then I chickened out since I'm scared of breaking it. :p

If all goes well, I'll get the bike built up by the end of tomorrow. Can't wait! :D

is the headset already pressed in?

DaveSANYYZ
11-24-07, 12:16 AM
Yeah. I ordered the frame with headset, so the store installed the headset parts on the frame and the fork. :D

jsigone

if the fork is a alum steer tube, you can get a pipe cutter from Home depot for like 15 bucks. Make sure you get the 1 1/2" cutter. If it's carbon, well I never cut a carbon tube so iduno if you can use the same thing or not. Hope the shop won't charge you alot when you take it in.

Thanks! It's carbon, so that's why I'll be bringing it in.

At the end, it would've cost less if I got everything from competitivecyclist (the online store where I got the frame from), since they'll install everything. Now I have to pay to get it assembled. Wasted $ due to indecisiveness/last minute change of plans. :(

UC Cyclery charged $20-25 to cut the carbon steerer and install the stem (which is not a bad idea to have them do anyway if you don't have a torque wrench). You also have the opportunity to determine how many spacers you want.

11-24-07, 12:40 AM
yah but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

I just ordered my team kit with the new club, so that pushed back my wheelset purchase. But they are getting sponsered by American Classic so I "might" get some 420's if the price is right. If not I'll find something else cheaper. I'm having to lift the brake caliper levers on BOTH brakes when I climb, thats how much these damn $hitymono's 550's flex!!! I'll prolly also get a ultegra 11-23 cassette if I can find one. I need more top end for the crit races.

I've been flip-flopping on the bike build thing... again!

I think I'll try it myself and if things go wrong I'll just ask nicely for my lbs for help. Hahaha! Of course, I won't touch the steerer tube in case I'll break it. :p

Jeff, want to try using my Krysium Equipe for now? Try it out and see if it's acceptable. It may be heavier than your Shimano though. I will need to pick up the rear from Mark first. I also have the Easton Tempest 2 that you can borrow, but it's also considered fairly heavy.

SDBC members, which I'm a member of, has some discounts on Spinergy wheels.

Anyone have experiece with "The Path" in tustin??

The new frame is going to be delivered today.
Signature required... Sh*t...
That means I have to hang around most of the day or wait until next week and pick
it up at FedEx....

Dave, similar choice, build it myself and take it in for tuning, or
have the shop build it. ( I know this is the good choice).

How important is a torque wrench for assembly??

Just about every part is hex wrench, I have that covered anyway!

Mostly it's not important except when things are made of carbon (e.g. carbon seat posts, steerer tubes and handlebars etc.) It's possible to ruin carbon stuff by overtorquing.

I was going to be free that weekend, but my parents pulled the "How about if we come out and see you that weekend" surprise last week. It'll be good to see them, but no (or very short) rides for me.

Did you teach them the proper evacuation procedure?

So, I was going to go ride with Happy this morning, but I didn't sleep well and couldn't pull it out of bed at 5am. :( Now, I'm heading off to do something I've never done. I'm going to park my car and explore. Just ride in a direction I know and explore. Then, gulp, I'm going to try to do three hill repeats. Just three and just to see if I'll hate it as much as I think I will.

Oh, yeah, and SIDIs are amazing!! OMG. Who knew that bling bling is actually a good thing. Those shoes were so comfy yesterday. I've been riding all my miles in shoes that were awful! I can't even believe the difference.

You didn't miss much, ME. It was cold and windy this morning and aside from a guy from Tarzana on a sweet Cervelo, the CR quotient was almost zero. I cut my ride in half and warmed up at Good Stuff with some tasty whole wheat pancakes.

RE: Bling. Pretty soon you'll be riding a carbon bike with bib shorts and wondered how you ever got along without them.;)

Wanna go for another ride? :p I would have liked the Good Stuff and with me there, I would have blocked some of the wind for you. I'm bummed I didn't get up! As for the carbon bike....um...I'm thinking that actually I WOULD be able to tell the difference. :D Bib shorts...not so much.

I just finished my first post-cold, lingering asthma ride. Yuck. Out and back to Encinitas. My heart rate was ridiculous and I have the VO2 Max of an elderly housecat. I need new lungs.

I've got a dumb question: I don't own a MP3 player yet (never owned one), but will I be able to connect it to a conventional home audio receiver?

There is a simple way to accomplish this. Use a 1/8" headphone jack connected to two RCA style plugs. You should be able to buy one of those anywhere for a couple bucks.

Stopped by Verdugo Park (I think that's the name). They had cyclocross races going on ... that was cool. Brutal part was when they had to dismount, hurdle over the obstacles .... then the hard part, getting back on the bike. A few racers missed ... oooh ... that had to hurt.

Installed the bb/crank and brakes yesterday, then stared at it for a long time and decided to give up. Brought it in to Nytro this morning and now it's a bike! Well, I still have to install the pedals and adjust the saddle height.
