Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It isn't done until there are picturesOne pic here. Doesn't look that nice though. I think I need to spend some effort to remove those wheel labels. On this bike they're too distracting. :p

Besides, what would be the point of riding such a bike if it was too dark for anyone to see it?

I won't be able to ride at night this week anyways. End of month has me really busy at work.

I'll most likely ride early in the morning before work. After a few days of early riding with my bro-in-law, I think I got addicted.

Bleh. As much as my life is an open book on BikeForums, some things are better left not posted for the world to read. Bye SoCal. Hopefully normalcy will return soon enough, but until then, I may be kind of scarce.

:( Well, I hope you're okay, J. You can call me and talk if you need to. No airing of anything on here worries.

I spoke to the young man last night. The "real" reason for his BF absence will soon be explained in full.

Catching up:

Go_Fast: Went to Texas...stank up the place...and came back.

Cuda2K: Came to SoCal...stank up the place...then left.

TheFixer: Made $3 the hard way....then discovered what RadioShack is actually good for.

Merider1: Ogled herself in the mirror, naked...wow, it's a small world.

Every turkey-glutton fatbody on here: Ate way too much, and is still chiseling through that leftover stuffing petrificus.

GrumpyPig: Is actually grumpy, for once. Damn in-laws and their uncouth ways. You should have just challenged them to Indian wrestling, spun it to a figure-4, then snapped a few knees. Or, you could have just flexed and knocked them out with your biceps from across the room.

thomson: I think I might try that lemon juice and cayenne pepper enema that you're promoting. What could possibly go wrong?

spingineer: Get the iPhone. There's only about 6 months or so that we will have to deal with umpteen gadgets. Da Earf will become a single gadget world. Your phone will be your organizer, your GPS, your cyclocomputer, your camera, mp3 player, remote harddrive, garage door opener, TV remote, car keys, and personal pleasure device....which means, when you drop it in the toilet, you'll lose everything.

spingineer: Okay, forget it...don't get the iPhone...see if I care.

Chucklehead: Is being practical, hates Apple and Steve Jobs...and didn't get anything good this Thanksgiving.

DaveSANYYZ: Got the sickest Colnago ever. Just badass.

Ovoleg: Teased us with pics of something...then left us unfulfilled.

Merider1: Likes her new shoes...she ogled them in the mirror, naked.

Indolent: I'd wait for new lungs until they come onto steepandcheap.com.

Jschen: Got all 'Emo' on us. Go sit in a coffee shop and cry, emo kid.

I was actually at the Apple Store, and was trying to check out the ipod touch. Well, has anyone told the folks at the Apple Store in Pasadena that you have to have one working demo, in order for customers to consider buying it? I did check out the iPhone, but the web surfing was doggy slooooow. Trying to get to bikeforums took about 1 minute. Must have been less than dial up modem speeds! Not motivating me to buy one!

Mo'Phat's rules to live by, #5,098,176.a.2 (rev. J)

"Don't buy the first issuance of anything. Generally, it's one step above the beta unit, there are still bugs and quirks, and the manufacturer or subcontracted R&D don't have the 'power-user' mentality to break-down all the foreseeable trouble spots. They depend on the first year's users to try, critique, and troubleshoot a list of issues so that when the subsequent issuances do come out, they can charge a premium for fixing what should never have been problems in the first place." - So sayeth, the Mo.

Still haven't met or ridden with Jason. Hope all is well.

Going to hit the road back up to NorCal after lunch. Hopefully, by then, everyone is back to work, so I won't have to deal with that much traffic.

Great seeing everyone on Saturday. See ya guys in two weeks.

Kind of a bittersweet weekend. Nice run Thanksgiving Day, scored at the Pearl Izumi sale, followed by a nice ride Friday morning, and a couple of really calming, peaceful yoga classes. Then the tearful departure of a very good friend, even though it's only to Mission Viejo.

SD to MV is less milage than my one way daily commute... why would that be a problem?

There were some other things going on also led to the emotional departure. As it is, we usually ran together or went to yoga during the week, so now will harder to connect. As it is, I don't get north that much, though I will probably be finding a lot more excuses to go ride up in OC now.

Wireless interference or dirty roller ball?

Chucklehead

it's optical. and when i change surfaces, it's fine for a minute or two, then goes back to being mousy. something similar happened the last time i had a rollerball mouse, and it actually signaled the impending death of my computer.

*EDIT* optical and wireless. sorry.

/not you, Joy. I mean elation.

On a sad note, I took my car back to the shop (for the 4th time, remember...) because there's something wrong with the clutch. It feels like I'm starting off in 2nd gear with the lack of torque, chatter, and bumping that's happening. Either it's the wrong clutch, or the chimpanzees that installed it did it R-O-N-G rong.

I'm pretty irate at the moment. Wrench better fix this, or he'll lose the business of my family, my parents, my in-laws, and the dozen or so neigbors I turned on to this guy.

is there a smell coming from the when you get outa 1st or anything? If they didn't resurface the flywheel, it's kill the clutch in a heartbeat. I usually put in aftermarket clutch and fly while I'm in there. Most modern aftermarket flywheels have removable surface areas for later clutch jobs. Anyways, hope they fix it and make you happy again. I hate taking it a shop cuz you trust that they do the job RIGHT, rather then make you a often seen customer.

I did a quick 1 hour ride with Torrey Pines this morning on my new bike; first ride. The ride wasn't the best. I got tired very early on, and one leg almost cramped on the way up the hill. Need to re-adjust the positions and all. With the way the hood is set up now, it's like driving an SUV.

On the bright side, I definitely felt less road buzz than on my C'dale while remaining relatively "snappy". Will do a left/right comparison ride this weekend to find out more. :)

So far it has to do with my (lack of) physical condition today than with the bike, so I wasn't really able to test it well. :)

I'd say that, for the first 5-10 rides on my bike when I built it, I rode with a full set of hex wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and a small level.

I was the Snap-On Tools girl.

that MORE then you needed to, prolly just need to rebleed the system if they changed out both systems. Hope the clutch didn't fry it self. + you need to stop doing burnouts on the freeway:p
