Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Good news: I earned my "hit by car" merit badge this morning! And Scootcore got to witness it in all its glory. What score would you give the dismount and landing, Scoot? She was turning right into a parking lot and never saw me (even though she had just passed me about 3 seconds earlier).
Amazingly, the bike seems okay, except for a little front wheel wobble. My shoulder and hip are bruised pretty good, couple gouges along my spine, and minor road rash on one knee. Funny enough, the worst part is going to be my blackened thumb nail, which hurts like a *****. All in all, very fortunate. :)
Wow. Glad you're OK, Vance!

On a high note, we set a new PR on our 13 mile route, 37m36secs. Did some sweet flat land pulls at
35 mph and jump it to 40 then back down to 35. Had a car cut us off as she turn right at a turn and we almost went it her door at 33mph:eek: Both of us hit the brakes and made it to the outside just as she was turning in on us. Stupid f'n 8itch:mad:

No, I'm quite certain that this was somehow Joy's fault... I haven't quite pieced that together, yet, though.

mahn you were in hammer mode, I was getting beat up bad from the crosswinds. Talk to Crash, he stuck on to your wheel like glue. We need to work on the commucation part in our rides, so you aren't dead, just shy of it though then you can suck a wheel for a bit to recover.
Hopefully we don't have those crazy winds on our next ride (sunday maybe).

Kudos to Boulevard Cycles on Ventura (sister shop to Agoura Cycles) -- because it was a traffic accident, they're going to true the wheels and go through a safety inspection for no charge.

That's excellent information. Next time I need my wheels trued I'll just throw myself in front of a car.

Their big grand opening event is this weekend. Food, drawings, etc. Plus they are doing a ride to Griffith Park and back then feeding you!

So I usually don't participate in these class action lawsuit deals which I get in the mail from time to time. I usually toss them in the trash. I tore these up into shreads and tossed them (wife and I each received one) in the trash last night. I'm sure everyone in this country who owns a credit card got this claim form in the mail.
But this credit card settlement suit was so easy I got on line and clicked on for the easy $25 refund each for us after coming home from work this afternoon and retreiving the torn bits of the claim forms. So we might receive $50 in a year or two while the attorneys pocket 10 million dollars...:D

I showed you a wheel like 3 times during that one section...you stayed on your line so i was like...heck..he's got it....I was waiting for the pull off but you stayed left...when you did pull right you were shot to hell...
The whole way down that one fast section i was like...man...he ain't gonna last much longer...and those other guys were NO help...cause when i pulled after you died they stayed on my wheel all the way down to 23mph, i was kinda P od'.
Good times though...a pace line would have been really hard to sustain with 3 guys and those winds.

Was it the one where you were entitled to damages if you used your credit card in a foreign country between 1996 and 2006? I got that one. I am doing the fast path too, just $25 but heck, that will buy 1/2 cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Of course. It started raining in the middle of the ride when I was the farthest from home. On the weather radar now it's the ONLY place getting rain in the area.
I did have fun, though.

oh, i guess i didn't see it. i was just thinking, ok back off a little and someone will get the hint. i actually did flick the ol' elbow at one point, but no one saw. oh well, no biggy. once i let go i was more than happy to let the group go. figured i'd done enough heavy work for the day. need to work on my recovery...
oh, and to make matters worse, i couldn't get my damned jersey off after the ride because i was so sore from the upper body workout i did the day before. almost had to call someone to come help me.

what gives?
Anywho...Jay...i noticed you backed off but you were about a minute from riding me off your wheel so when you slowed a couple i was down with that, but i didn't see the elbow flick, had i seen it i would have bit my lip and given it hell.
I thought it was funny that we caught those guys later. My recovery was great after that...i need to work on my power on the flats...my little legs just ain't got it.
