I'm tired of this rain on saturdays........

On a happier note, I just put up my xmas lights outside. Stayed dry enough to not get shocked:beer:

Good news: I earned my "hit by car" merit badge this morning! And Scootcore got to witness it in all its glory. What score would you give the dismount and landing, Scoot? She was turning right into a parking lot and never saw me (even though she had just passed me about 3 seconds earlier).

Amazingly, the bike seems okay, except for a little front wheel wobble. My shoulder and hip are bruised pretty good, couple gouges along my spine, and minor road rash on one knee. Funny enough, the worst part is going to be my blackened thumb nail, which hurts like a *****. All in all, very fortunate. :)

it was seriously freaky....cant even joke about it. too much crunching and seeing my friend falling in front of an suv.....no bueno. although the color of his thumbnail and condition of his sunglasses was pretty cool!

I think I'm going to take my mountain bike for a spin around 1pm and climb the hills in my neighborhood. No computer, just my big Red Baron. :D I need exercise and didn't get up in time to put in a full ride (I'm cleaning my apartment and doing chores that I hate ) But a ride on the Baron will get my blood pumping.

Tracy, if you check in...I  you. :)

So I'm riding up Campesina, going around around the PV golf course wondering why they called this route the "Donut Hole." Eureka! It hit me!

Big Loop = Donut Ride
Small Loop = Donut Hole

The peahens were out in force on that road (almost ran over them - twice) so I decided to test my gimpy leg up Via del Monte... I think I set the slo-mo record for that climb in my 34-27. However, the 40mph twisty descent was a blast. Oh hills, how I've missed you!!!

Well, soccer game over and Hilly's team is now out...season over. Well, at least we don't have to play again this afternoon or Monday night!

Got in a nice 15 mile loop after the game. Bit chilly. I had on a base layer plus long sleeve jersey and windbreaker with super gloves. My hands got a bit too warm, though. Tell me something about base layers....when you remove the shirt, should it be pretty wet? I'm using an old one I had from skiing many years ago and wondered if it works. How dry should I be in there?

Still got to find some wool socks...my feet get too cold on days like this. Looking at a couple of shoe covers, courtesy of the Winter Riding sub-forum. Any suggestions?

Sheldon, my base layer gets damp but rarely wet. It's one of those wick-dry thingies. As for shoe covers, I use Pearl Izumi toe covers. Works great for me. :)

Take her out on a dirt trail above SO and get dirty. Report back. :D

I did, I did, I did!!! :D I swear, but I didn't take my camera. I am next time so you people will believe me. But I took off and just explored, ended up going up Dixie Canyon which dead ends into a dirt/mud fire road and I climbed it (my butt and quads are wiped) all the way until it connected to Mulholland. It was so much fun although I'll admit that I was petrified coming back down it as I had to do everything counter intuitive to what I'm used too. But my tires are really thick and it was a blast and the weather amazing, although freezing. I loved it and it was an hour and 15 minute workout that kicked my booty. :p

When I left this morning, a little after 6am, I had on my regular bib shorts with windblock tights over them, thin base layer and a fleecy jersey. I found the extra fabric around my middle from the bibs kept my core warmer than regular shorts/tights. I wore full-fingered gloves. My hands got warm and I had to unzip my jersey on the climb, but I sure needed them on the way down. My baselayers are always damp when I take them off. Quality jerseys will also wick additional moisture away.

On my feet I wore thin windblock Campagnolo shoe covers. I prefer them over thick socks because they don't make my feet feel pinched in my shoes. For even colder weather, I have some Descente neoprene booties, but I've only worn them a few times for 30°F mornings.

I've had a couple of toe warmers but they don't do much. Been looking online at the LG windtex and some Sidetraks.

Ah man, I thought it's gonna rain so I didn't ride. Turns out to be such a great day too. :p

On the brighter side, I finally adjusted my bike positions. Turns out my saddle was 4 cm forward and 1-2 cm higher on the new bike. Hopefully this would eliminate my cramping on it. I guess my matching-by-eye-balling doesn't work. :D

Turned out to be a great day for a ride in north county. The wind was a bit stiff from the west, but other than that, the weather was perfect. I managed to get in 54 miles without getting rained on, so I'm a happy camper.

Hi Dave,

Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a professional fitting for Christmas (or whatever you celebrate this time of year). A beautiful bike like yours needs to be fitted like a custom suit. :)

Don't know who's good down in San Diego but I'm sure someone on this forum does know.
