Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was hoping they would evolve their color scheme. Still not my favorite, but the addition of the contrasting darker blue makes a huge difference.

Dagnabbit! He just called and confirmed that the Pinarello RC is available only in Europe.

Hey... there's short people here, too!

So fly on over to Europe and pick one up!

Make sure and rent this to drive around while you're there.

Talk to Simo.

BillRon can probably hook you up with him, or you can volunteer at World Cup for something on the infield and try to catch him there-- he's usually an infield coordinator.

Now try go riding up Chantry tonight...:p

I took your advice and went up Chantry tonight. That was probably the slowest I've climbed it in months! At least I was rewarded by the coldest descent I've ridden in a long time!

Just finished the build on my Rob Stowe hunk-o-steel. My unerring powers of perception discern that the Stowe is substantially heavier than my Look 565. Nothing gets by me.

I will try a test ride tomorrow AM.

Getting reservations for dinner this Saturday was a chore ... everyone booked till 8:30 PM. I guess the best time would be last week. Lucky we had the party last week ... oh, and thanks again Joy. Had a lot of fun there.

Besides, it's very peaceful at 4am. As long as you have the right lights and clothing. I didn't have to unclip once between the Palos Verdes Starbucks and the Marina del Rey Starbucks. :D

Posing starts at 6am, as participants of the Pier Ride assemble at 6:30.

Sparse turnout today. I wonder why, it was nice out there this morning. Speedee?

And another thought. Your question raises an important astrophysical issue that requires further research. At exactly what time after the Big Bang did space/time and matter stabilize to the point that it became possible for a poser to pose and an observer to observe, the two events of course being inextricably linked?

My hypothesis is that 3 min 45 sec after the Big Bang a helium-4 atom was observed sipping a soy latte by a free positron.

All of us are a bunch of fat, out of shape lazy asses...or shall I say, brains :p

I know I definitely need to get to training:

http://www.physorg.com/news114363930.html

And interestingly enough, he has a similar training schedule as us mere athletes:

He practices regularly and jogs every day, doesn't drink coffee or alcohol and avoids foods that are high in sugar or fat -- to help him think faster.

"I use a process to improve my skills, to behave like a computer. When I do something wrong, I learn from that," he says. "It's like running a program in my head ... to control my brain," he says.

But he says he takes days off once in a while and listens to music to relax, although he is unable to name a band or a genre he actually likes.

"It is important not to work too much," he says. "I can't do multiplication all day because otherwise my heart or my brain would fail. Too much training, thinking too fast could be bad for my health."

About 6pm I decided I had enough, that I was going to ride no matter how cold it was. Thermometer said 50F, which felt mighty cold. So wearing a pair of jeans, t-shirt and turtleneck, windbreaker and light overcoat, bike packed in my car, we were off for a few laps around Balboa park. I even brought my GDR military surplus leather gloves in case my bike gloves weren't warm enough. By the time I got to the park dressed like I was, with the car heat on high, I had already warmed up plenty, deciding the windbreaker would be enough, and no need for the heavier gloves.

Dude...you need to invest in some spandex and fleece tights/leg warmers, arm warmers and a full on cycling jacket. Riding at night is the best. Get yourself a good light and I'll take you up to the Observatory at Griffith Park. Well, as soon as I start getting back out there myself. I hate being sick and stressed and having to work.

+1. The right clothes make all the difference.

I headed out with a LS base layer, Gore Windstopper jacket, thermal tights, full fingered gloves, light balaclava and shoe covers. I never felt the chill. Even when I pushed it and worked up a sweat, the wicking properties kept me very comfortable.

Oh, I can work up a sweat when I'm climbing. I once wrote a vivid description of the "joys" of climbing. Unfortunately, my narrative was lost when the original "What's Up" thread got trashed.
