The only thing I hate about the Browns is the dog masks...but they're better than the overweight men with pignoses wearing dresses. Worst.Gimmick.Ever.
I could never rock the Cleveland Dawg Pound look because I'm not a fattie. Love the Dawgs though. Bones and collars and shyte. Ridiculous good fun. Yeah, those Redskins Hoggs - OMG.

I'll sound like a homer here...The 'mugging' of Hansbrough last year could be seen both ways. Trying to look at it unbiased-like
Seriously, man, come on. That was one of the cheapest shots I have ever seen. :p

It was much more fun being the cursed, underdog red sox. Instead, we've now become the NY Yankees (albeit with more palatable ownership). 2004 was momentous. 2007 was a yawner, by comparison.
My favorite baseball moments these past few years have been the Angels beating the Yankees in post season, Angels winning the WS, and the Diamondbacks beating the Yankees in the WS. Thrills galore!

I think the cameraman took a cheap shot when Hansbrough fell out of bounds and whacked his head on the guy's knee (http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/121607aaa.html)...giving himself a concussion. edit: V. Rutgers.
And this guy...talk about a cheap shot...nothing like burying your face in a guy's crotch as he's just trying to play the game!!!

If I remember correctly, K was being blasted for Henderson's whacking of Tyler by the press. It was right after an emotional loss. I'm not excusing him suggesting Tyler shouldn't have been on the floor, but what else could the guy say? He's defending his player who he thought was being painted as a thug.
He could've said sorry, he could've said he's going to review the tapes and talk with his player before saying anything else. Mainly, he shouldn't have blamed it on the other coach. That's all.

Mo, here's some insight from a UNC fan in Charlotte:
Things I might add:
-A lot of the national hatred started with their last title team, when the perception of everyone not a Duke fan is that the refs handed Duke the title. There was a famous play where the PG, Jason (now Jay, NBA career ended after motorcycle accident) crowd-dived the other team going for a steal and there was no call.
-Speaking of refs, the Duke players are specifically coached to flop for calls, and they almost always get them. Youtube "Paulus Flop" (or maybe "Duke flop") for a great example. And JJ Redick made a living off this. Shane Battier too. Redick got extra points off free throws in almost any non-NCAA tourney game because of this.
-Speaking of Redick, he's in a nutshell something to hate about Duke recently: over-hype. Their last really good team, IMO, was that 1999 team (Brand, Maghette) that lost to UConn in the finals. I think they have been overhyped by the Vitale/ESPN media machine, so that's another reason a lot of people hate Redick/Duke. Vitale could be covering Cricket in India and insert something about how Duke is such an awesome program. Redick wasn't even the best player on his own team (Sheldon Williams was), but you would have thought he was the 2nd coming with his press. Redick on most 90s Duke teams wouldn't sniff the scoring records he set. And, with the phantom fouls he'd get called, he never panned out in 4 seasons of NCAA tourney games because he couldn't get the calls. Honest defense could shut him down.
-I find most of the Duke teams of this decade over-hyped. Outside their '01 or '02 title, they have not played up to their seed every single year.
-Duke routinely has trash talking, over-exposed, ****z guys that just beg you to hate them. Laettner wasn't even liked by his own teammates. Wojo-whatever and Redick are more guys like this, though in fairness to them, they never stomped on another player in game. Laettner should have already been thrown out of the game where he made his famous shot.
Wait wait wait.... did he say without being a ****z? You should cease this discussion immediately. He's not rational.

(quoting me) You have to admit the Patriots have been a godsend to the NFL in terms of legitimate excellence [chortle!!!] and setting the bar for domination.
And what have they done since the sideline cameras were shut off? Crush everyone. To my dismay, I might add. I was really hoping they would take a huge fall. But they didn't, so I'd call that legitimate. I do like how their players don't mug and showboat.

Who was that?
Sure, you can microargue anything...I'm not arguing that Duke doesn't deserve some of the disdain they get, I'm just really looking, seriously, as to whether I'm backing the wrong team.
It's all sounding like people that don't like Duke are just...I don't know...petty or something.
Duke flops? OHNOES!! Everybody in basketball..college or pros...flops (see: Ginobli, M). It's part of the game. If a flop cost you the game, bummer...you should have pulled up and not grazed the guy.
Duke teams in the 00's might have been overhyped, but when you routinely get some of the best incoming recruiting classes every stinking year (3 McDonalds All-Americans this year), you're bound to get a ton of hype.
The last few years have been ALL UNC. Hansbrough, Terry, Felton, May...all UNC all the time. Good on 'em, they deserved it and dominated like they should have.
As for trash talking...Duke is evil...they get so much crap from every team they play, all the time. Redick was satan incarnate. If you can step up and still be as prolific a shooter as he was in the face of such out-and-out hate and ire, I think you're due for some cockyness.
I also think you're buddy wasn't watching the same games I was vis-a-vis Redick. His inability to carry his team in the tournament was more a reflection of his team. He and Shelden did everything they could. But at tournament time, every player on the floor has to be a difference maker. If opposing teams only have to key in on one or two guys, it's going to be harder for any good to happen.

Eh...you're not going to win that with me...They might not be taping now, but who's to say that they are not reviewing all the other tapes, or have spies, or anything. Spygate raised all sorts of doubts.

How about Dennis Connor? - didn't he lose stars and stripes off the coast of long beach? that *******.

My favorite dirty tactic used by the NFL is signing a released player from a rival, squeezing as much info as possible from him about his former team, then releasing him. LOL
Shawne shouldn't be dancing to begin with. Just win.

Well, isn't that always the case as viewed from the dominant team/player looking down at all the nay-sayers? Which is one of the many reasons -- despite the requisite lip service to parity -- sports leagues love having a goliath (and go out of their way to help, um, create them). It's just good business. The masses will rally around the [Yankees, Tiger, Duke, M. Jordan, etc], and everyone else will hate them, creating lots of juicy drama.

Indeed. Which is why the NBA has sucked the past 20 years. And, the point was that Duke does it more, and gets away with it more (just like the "star treatment crap in the NBA). And let's not talk about the flops in soccer. Sickening.

I find this point interesting: Consider that Carlos Boozer is a star at Utah, Mike Dunleavy was a star at Golden state, but it now somewhere else.
Shane Battier w/ the Rockets
Chris Duhon and Luol Deng w/ the Bulls
Elton Brand w/ the Clippers
Corey Magette is somewhere
J.J. Redick is with the Magic
Shelden Williams is somewhere
Dahntay Jones and Shavlik Randolph are still kicking around.
Quite a few Duke players are making it in the NBA lately.
And remember that Laettner, while not a star, had a 10 year NBA career. Jay Williams would have been another Iverson, had he not been such a dumbass and gotten in that motorcycle accident.
I can't remember where the UNC players went...but y'all keep hanging your hat on Michael Jordan. ;)

Don't forget Grant Hill. First of all, I'm not a tarheel fan, so leave me out of this. :) Second, if you want to look at the last 10, 15, 20, or more years, it's quite a landslide in favor of UNC. Duke has certainly improved in this area very recently (it would have been hard not to), and with Deng, Boozer, and Brand, Duke probably has the current edge for the first time ever. But reaching back, if you have to reach down to names like Dahntay Jones and Shelden Williams.. well, you know. :)
I apologize for dragging this out longer than either of us are probably interested in it (at least in my case, with no horse in this particular race!).

Yay, I'm riding today...with my new bar tape. Should be just like a feather bed on a cloud suspened by bubblewrap and unicorn breath.
Had a great day at Disneyland yesterday. Was a bit cold, especially after we got soaked on Splash Mountain. Froze for awhile. The park looks great with all of the Holiday decorations. We bailed on the fireworks 'cause we were a bit tired and didn't want to sit out and wait.

Sigh.....missed out out this morning's shop ride. Usually my wife goes to the gym and I head out while we leave our 13 year old at home. However she is still sleeping and we didn't want her to wake up to an empty house.
So, I fell on the sword and opted to give the wife her gym time. Since it's way cold outside, I don't exactly feel terrible about it! I could always ride later or just do a Spinervals session at home. Nonetheless, now I feel lousy about not getting to ride with the group. Get to spend the morning fixing a faucet. When I went to buy the part earlier, I saw my group head out...well smallish today only 5 of them. (is this supposed to make me feel better?). Waaahhhhhh
