yeah, I'm new and I'v e been lurking. Finally back on bikes after about 10 years..! Last time I broke my elbow MTBing. Silly monkey! Denver Colorado is home. Plenty of motorcycles but I thought it was time to park them and the car for my health and all the other hippy ideals...and yes I wear Birkenstocks. THey match all the tattoos on the legs and arms...
I'm liking this place here alot. I don't see to many (none really) Clydes/Athenas on my daily commute. I will always be a Clyde. 6'2" tall and wear a 60-62 jacket tipping the scales at 307. Im not shrinking anytime soon. Certainly not gonna see the sub 200 in this life!

I ride a 2007 Giant Yukon set up for commuting with an old MC tankbag on the back rack, lights all over, cyclo 'puter, bar ends, WTB speed5 seat and my favorite pieces, the Continental TravelContacts. So far only one patch on the tube. Alot of time spent with tweezers and needlenose tho'.
Looking to get a hybrid/road of some sort. Prolly a Raleigh.

So yeah. So far I've put on 500 miles in 6 weeks on the new bike. I'm thrilled! Love it!! Hoping to do a century, metric at least before year end. I'd also like to hit 1000 miles before years end. We will see...Haven't seen alot of people doing this on MTBs...

so yeah. Thats my long winded intro...

I notiched quite a few commuters here. Any one doing it on a MTB? A Century?

ok, thats enough.

Glad to meet you all!

I just got a MTB and I hope I never "have" to do a century on it ;-)

I commute on the EAI fixed gear in my signature, tour and train on a touring bike and will hopefully be having a blast in the forest/winter on the mtb.

I started out at just below 300 and have lost a lot.

My approach was to have fun first and enjoy the fitness/weight loss benefits as a bonus and it's working so far, so just go out and have fun :-)

Anyways, welcome to the group and congratulations on an investment in a healthier lifestyle.

Welcome! Sounds like you are racking up the miles. I have a HardRock MTB and use it as a commuter as well as my main ride. I have only logged about 720 in about 14 weeks of riding but only started commuting a couple weeks ago. I hope to reach over 1000 before years end. As long as the weather holds, I should get that and some.

Welcome.

That Yukon is a nice bike. I had one a 2004, just sold it to my Bro-in-law. There is a difference in a MTB and a road bike on a century. But, if you are use to your MTB and haven't ridden a road bike you won't know the difference and you will still be happy. Mainly in speed which equals time. The wider wheels of the MTB make it a smoother ride though. I would recommend getting some slicks for a century.

Welcome aboard! Being over 300# gets you an "Uber" pin as well.

Thank you for the welcome!
Bike is currently in the shop with a blown/broken rear hub. Somewhere in the freewheel. The cassette was fine. Currently puttering around on the the ol' Schwinn Speedster. Had to knock it back together last night after dropping wheel off at shop. At least I have something to ride...
