Isn’t Old Creek a great climb and the downhill on Hwy 46 with the crosswinds is always fun.
Old Creek was great, I wish that climb was closer to my home! Trees kept things nice and cool, the pitches varied just enough, and some nice lengthy stretches of 13-14% were enough to get the HR up. :)
Those crosswinds coming down, though.... ugh. I could've used another 20-30 pounds. :(

I had that extra 20-30 pounds, and it was still dicey for me. Do you really want to look like me??? :p

As Ron said...even with our extra weight, it was still pretty dicey!

+1 - Joy, I have the extra 20 you wish you had (in the wind, that is) and it didn't help at all. My bike was literally swaying back and forth and I brought my 37mph speed down to 23!

 I was trying to protect you, me and the muffins from mutant roach. It wasn't a dance, it was an ancient martial arts move.

I got up to 43, then scrubbed when I got hit with the cross winds...even tucked it was bad...

Yeah, I topped 41 in a tuck when I got hit by the first blast. It knocked me two feet sideways. After the second one, I just sat up and rode the brakes down. Even ME (the one who yells at me constantly for going too fast) caught me! :p

I think I was at 42 at one time, and that's when I started to tap my brakes. It felt like I was on San Marcos Pass Rd. It almost felt like my tires were under pressured, and I was riding on dirt.
If you like area so much, remember my wife and I put on a 3 day bike ride in that area in May. It’s the Lung Ride, http://www.kernlung.org/events/bike%20trek/bike%20trek.htm (http://www.kernlung.org/events/bike%20trek/bike%20trek.htm), here is a link to last year’s web site (next year’s site up in a couple of weeks). I promise easy check-in at all motels, no cockroaches (of course ME the dance could be entertaining, could you do it at Saturday’s night dinner), great routes, food and SAG support everyday. Next year’s ride will be May 16, 17 & 18, 2008.

Herb, we have a rest stop across the street from the Sea Chest on the 100 mile ride Saturday. The only thing it’s about 9:30am when we go through there. The 100 miler Saturday starts in Cayucos goes up Old Creek, over Hwy 46 to Cambria. Then it’s back to Morro Bay on Hwy 1, on out to Montana de Oro, back to Los Osos, over Turri Rd., out to Avila Beach, back to SLO and the Royal Oak Inn. That’s just one of the routes for Saturday, we have four routes of all levels from 25-100 miles. Friday there are two different routes for Paso Robles to Cayucos with both going down Old Creek Rd. to Cayucos. Sunday there is just one route and it’s a very kick back easy day.

Yeah, I didn't find the 46 descent all that spooky.
I imagine the wind freshened up some in the short time between our respective
passages down that bit of road.

you'd have been a little zippier.
You should just be jealous of me getting a decent night's sleep.

That was only because those two guys in blue were bugging the expletivedeleted out of me. When I was pulling, they made a big production of getting in front of me, which was fine. But then they were going slow-fast-slow-fast so I kept running up into their wheel. So I decided to go around and drop them.
I kept glancing back and saw Ron's wheel stuck on mine, so I assumed everyone was OK with picking it up a notch. It wasn't until I heard screaming from far back that I realized we were the only ones. Sorry!

No such things occurred. I had a drink and some nice conversation with a good looking single man. What you did in your past that you were dreaming about when I returned to the room, should not be projected onto me.
Besides, I wasn't singing any such thing...I was humming, "What's Love Got to Do with It." :D
