what are the knobbiest tires under 35-50 bucks a piece in 2.3-2.5 inches. I am running holy rollers and i like them but i will need a set of knobbies for the winter.

Where are you located at? Why not studded?

i could get studded, but i have to ride on the roads, so they would probably wear out. Also nashbar is out of theirs, and the only ones i have seen in a decent size was 91 dollars for one 2.3 inch tire. if you find a studded tire in a 2.3 thats 50 or less let me know

2.35" is big as it gets.
Oh yeah, it's called the Kenda Tomac King of Traction

They are only 2.25, but they are the knobbiest I have ever seen. http://www.intensetires.com/spike_fro.htm

I still don't think they're quite as "mean" as the KOT's.
I have a Kenda Knarly that is pretty dang meaty. It's supposed to be a 2.1" tire but due to excessive hexagonal edge knobs it measures noticeably wider. ( I don't think they make the Knarly anymore )

yeah but with those you need to make sure your hubs are always tight, the wheels must be true, otherwise you will end up with a hole in the frame.

Snicker, snicker.
(rode 'em all last winter on a beater with wobbly wheels...no holes)
People say the funniest things.

perfect tire or what?
May be a little wide. Leave yourself room for frame clearance b/c if your hub gets loose or your wheel gets out of true, you may gain a hole in the frame.:D
A Bontrager Jones would be good b/c they're not good for anything else! Panaracer Speedblaster 1.95" are ideal b/c they aren't too wide + they have perfect knobs. See the above picture.

Never owned a Maxxis product. Just look at the tread pattern and see. If it has alot of uniform knobs and the casing is tough...try it.

I'd stick with a more "knobby oriented" design that will still help grip. That tire with studs would do well on ice, but once you hit some packed snow...you still need some sort of knobs.
