I'm looking at the Dinotte 600L wide beam vs the Niterider Trinewt. Is there is much difference between these two lights? I want to get as wide a beam as possible up close to the bike without sacrificing distance too much. I saw the pics on acidinmylegs.blogspot.com but there's not a good pic to compare the 600L wide beam vs the trinewt really. Looking for more info.....

Well I'm sure we will see some eventually from people that buy the light or from sites that do light compares.

I have the TridenX but it is going back to Performance unopened. I am returning it because I got a good deal on the 600L (Rob upgraded both my 200L and the 140L to li ion so I can share batteries among them). PerformanceBike do have the TridenX on stock even their website says otherwise. I was surprised when I call them last Monday to cancel an order placed Saturday but find out the light was shipped.

10% off list last Sunday (100L wide + extra battery + extra charger) + upgrades to my existed 200L AA and 140L AA to the li-ion version. Man, how can i refuse that?!! I received all my 3 lights at once today. The 600L is bright! It completely drown the 200L. The wide lens produces a nice even light pattern which I found lacking from the 200L. The software upgrade to my existed lights makes them so much better also. With a 4 cell li-ion battery attached to the 140L, I can now run it in one of the blinker modes for the entire 30 miles of my daily commute for days without worry about charging.

yeah, sure, if it's the HID from NiteRider.

HID's prowess is waning fast. LEDs are dimmable, and light on in an instant to full blast,

and don't have as much washout,

especially the newer editions, which are warmer, more like halogens, but still very white at the same time which is really good for depth perception

So is the tridenx battery required to be mounted to your stem? 'cause that space is taken on my bike.

I dunno. The NiteRider Trinewt is 486 lumens. Respectable, but my HID is 725 lumens.
What is the TridenX purported to be? What HID are they comparing it to?
How were the beams photographed?

My wife has the NiteRider Classic Select, 25 watt halogen - with both lights on it's
bright but mine is brighter still. Together, there's no way you could say you can't
see us when we're on a commute. We're lit up like a cargo plane.

Does anyone have lumen specs for the TridenX? I've heard nothing yet either from
the manufacturers website. The 600L from Dinotte is 520-600 lumen according to
their specsheet with a runtime on high of 3.5 hours. The runtime on my light is
about 4.2 hours.

We're getting there, but high lumen LED is still more expensive than my HID was.
It would be nice to have the 600L as a handlebar light though, heh heh.

Well I have a couple niterider HID's and I think it is something like 500 lumens each or so. I know they put out a higher watt bulb a year or so after I bought mine so now the bulb is 13.5 watts I believe. I don't really remember what my cyclone HID bulb is, I think 11 or 12 watts. So the Trinewt is probably close in output to one of my HID's at 500 lumens. Obviously given the choice the LED would be the way to go. In general the beam pattern is smoother for LED lights and you don't get the weird rings in the beam pattern like you do on many HID's. I can see a lot of people choosing a 500 lumen LED light over a 725 lumen HID for many reasons which have already been listed.

Anyway here we go again. The obvious weakness of HID is the bulbs aren't very tough compared to the LED, the warm up time on HID to get to full power is a bit of a drag, with the LED you can turn it on and off as much as you want and HID only have so many startups, the way the LED can be dimmed to many levels allowing for some extreme run times is nice too. For instance I can use my Lupine Wilma 6 on a headband for uses other than biking and if I run it at approx. 100 lumens, which is very useful, it should last a few nights before needing recharging. This is not possible with my HID's which do dim a bit for longer run times, though not much. The color of the light that the Wilma puts out compared to my Niterider HID is far superior, but I can't speak for other HID's. Yes if you want LED now with equal lumen output to your HID it is gonna cost, but hopefully this evens out in time. All things considered I think the advantages to LED makes it worth more than the HID anyway.
