Charity Events - Cycling across the country

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Andrew Metcalf and I am a sophomore at the George
Washington University in Washington, DC. At this point in time I cannot say that I am a cyclist, but I am picking it up for a great cause. I thought I could spread awareness for my efforts by posting some info about them here.

Did you know that there are over 54 million Americans living with a
disability today? People with disabilities face many challenges
everyday that you and I cannot imagine, but one of the most tragic
barriers is a lack of understanding within our society. A simple
message of empathy and acceptance is all it takes to break down this
barrier, and I have committed myself to spreading this message next
summer.

From June to August 2008, I am riding my bike across the country to
support people with disabilities in an event called Journey of Hope.
In addition to the rigorous physical training that I will complete in
the next few months, I have also promised to raise $5,000 for Push
America, the national philanthropy of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

If you would like more information regarding what I am doing, please
visit my website at www.secure.pushamerica.org/andrewmetcalf (http://secure.pushamerica.org/andrewmetcalf). Here you
can learn more about my Journey and help me make it possible by
becoming a sponsor.

I understand that many of you who read this may be interested in
helping me but don't want to give online. With all the crazy spam
emails I get everyday, I know exactly where you're coming from. If
you want more information about what I am doing, feel free to send me
a letter and I can talk to you personally about my Journey. If you
would like to write a check to Push America on my behalf, please make
it out to "Push America" and send it to:

Pi Kappa Phi House

Room 402

Again, I am always excited to talk to people about what I am doing
next summer, so please feel free to contact me at
almetcalf@gmail.com.

If you aren't interested in giving, please forward this message to a
few close friends who might want to hear about my cause. I truly
appreciate your help as I try to raise funds and spread awareness for
people with disabilities.

Thanks,

Andrew Metcalf
