Quick jaunt from San Mateo to Portola Valley and back...a little brisk (high 40's) at 7am. Fall is here!

Yesterday was soccer day - both son's had games.

Today I hooked up with BigBossMan and we rode a loop starting out up Diablo to the junction, then out the North Gate, over Ygnacio Valley to Clayton, then back around Morgan Territory road. Very nice, and very hard. Neither of us is the fastest climber around, so we just took it at a pretty leisurely pace.

Rode from Cupertino, through PV and into Woodside (stopped briefly at Roberts' Market) and back via Whiskey Hill/Sandhill with my daughter on the tandem and my wife on the single.

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. About 3 miles uphill to this point. I had already rode 9 miles just to get to the place. You can see the city Pleasanton in the background. Beautiful day to be out riding.

uspspro (Marco) and I rode San Mateo-Woodside, up Kings, down 35 to 84, 84 West to the bottom of West OLH, up that to 35, back to 84, down 84 to Woodside, and home. 54.8 miles. The weather was PERFECT, apart from the usual afternoon headwind on Canada.

Yeah, it has been fantastic riding weather lately. The only thing I don't like about this time of the year is the waning daylight :(

I did not get to ride on Saturday but went out Sunday with my club's A ride for a little jaunt up Kings Mountain, along Skyline, down 84 West, up West Alpine and back down 84 East. Cool at the start but it warmed up nicely with great views along Skyline.

ya anytime after 11 it starts warming up, but before is perfect

The wind is my only problem with canada near hwy92-gotta hit it early
lots of people out riding their bikes
very nice

I love how theres always 2 or 3 people in cars who are arguing with the park service guy when they close down canada on sunday

"well can't you just let me through. I'll drive slow"

Sunday was a perfect day for a ride. Starting from my home in Willow Glen, went south through Almaden Valley and did the 3 lake loop (Calero, Uvas, and Chesboro). Nice quiet country roads.

I had an interesting side effect from the winds on Sunday. I pulled over on Skyline to take a quick break on a wide bit of shoulder. Almost immediately I was showered with acorns from above! Glad I had my helmet on. :p

Sounds fun, I've only tried that once.

Yeah, what's up with that...we got pelted all the way up Kings Mountain. It was a little unnerving!

Spelunking or riding a zip line? The owner of Moaning Caverns is planning to adding 2-3 more zip lines and a 1000' rope bridge across a canyon. Big fun both underground and above.

Both, on Outward Bound in the Midwest years ago. Might have to make a visit to Moaning Caverns at some point!

Rode the paddleboats at Shoreline Park on Saturday and one mile to Nob Hill for groceries on Sunday.

Today (10/7) is giving last weekend a SERIOUS run for its money!

I rode the same route as last week, on a different bike (but still EYE-talian!), and ended up going a little bit faster. I wonder if it has to do with not towing Marco back up Canada? ;)

BTW, I think I have a definitive answer to the question "Is a lighter bike faster?"

The answer is, "NO."

Last week, on my 21+ lb lugged steel beauty, I did Kings Mtn in 33:36. This week, on my 17 lb Carbon WunderBianchi, I did it in 34:29. I even kept my HR in much the same range, and was just as shaky and nauseous at the top.

I consider this question settled. :D

I agree; today was amazingly beautiful. Saw lots of cyclists on the road. My friends and I were doing hill training, with a 20 mile fast flat thrown in for grins. My legs have been humming since I got off the bike.

Can't wait for tomorrow -- another gorgeous day and another chance to take a ride!

Yeah, man alive, it was gorgeous both days. A little cool in the mornings...enough to make you want to warm up extra, but then the sun warms things up nice, but not too hot!

I would probably go out tomorrow too, but after 2 days of races, I'm ready for a recovery day :)
