Touring - front canti brake cable stop guy.....

Can anyone recommend a front brake housing stop for cantis that clamp onto the stem?
I have an old xo-1 and the fork is threaded where standard road brake bolts go so I can't use the kind that clamps to the fork crown and I don't want to mess with the headset kind...help?

You need something like this (http://www.biketoolsetc.com/index.cgi?id=470148488712&d=single&c=Repair-Parts&sc=Brake&tc=Cable-Hangers&item_id=TK-1255SB). It replaces the washer on your XO-1 that should be between the bearing race and the top nut. There should be one enough room since your bike was designed for cantis.

i know you kind of said your fork was threaded in some way, but if you have an XO-1 and you still have the stock fork, then you have a threadless fork. and if you have a threadless fork, then you need one of these

the one suggested by cyccommute will not work with a threadless headset because it is too small and it is keyed.

i know you kind of said your fork was threaded in some way, but if you have an XO-1 and you still have the stock fork, then you have a threadless fork. and if you have a threadless fork, then you need one of these

Not on a Bridgestone X0-1 he won't! Most likely a 1" threaded headset. My wife has an XO-2 and it's 1" threaded. The clamp-on version won't work on a threaded headset either. Too thick.

well, i cant argue with that. so i guess it depends on whether you have a trek xo-1 or a bridgestone xo-1. either way, i think you're going to have to either use a stem or front brake hole mounted cable stop, unless you can find a stem like this:

hopefully you'll be able to find the right size stem for your needs. but i think you may need to either run non-aero brakes or have some really ugly cable routing with aero brakes.

It's actually a Bridgestone X0-1 so it's a 1" threaded fork. I installed a Chris King headset and scuffed it up a bit in the process so I'm weary of using a headset mounted cable stop...the stem with built in stop is actually a good choice but I already splurged on a nice new technomic stem that fits excellent so that's out. What I meant before about the fork being threaded...the bolt hole in the fork crown used for road calipers is actually threaded...weird. Don't really know what Grant was thinking on that one. Maybe it does have a practical use...but I certainly have no effing idea what that might be! Anybody out there have any thoughts on that?

It would make installing a fender or reflector bracket easier. No long bolt. Just screw the bolt in and you're done. Maybe that's what you need to do. Get a reflector bracket and go at it with a Dremel tool. You could fashion a hanger that way. It'll be kind of low however.

This unit allows you to use traditional cantilevers or center-pull cantilevers without a housing stop on the headset. It is designed to bolt onto the front of the fork crown. This can solve a number of problems, and can improve cable routing by letting the cable get around even a low handlebar stem without a sharp kink.
This is not intended for use with suspension forks. It may be possible to make it work with some suspension forks by mounting it on the upside-down "U" bridge that connects the legs, but it must not be mounted on the fork crown of a suspsension fork as it will cause unpredictable brake application as the fork responds to bumps.

Good luck-- I have this housing stop on the rear brake bridge of my bike-- It works frount or back. It can, however move sideways and cause your brakes to fail, so keep it straight and the bolt tight!
