Any suggestions?

I ride about 12 to 15 miles about four days a week and unfortunately can't get in a regular long ride on the weekends.

Every week or so I take a ride for about 30+ miles. I have noticed that I get pain in one of my knees that lasts for the better part of the next week.

Being 54 and having a bit of arthritus I already take Vioxx daily. I use Capsacin topically with some benefit.

Are my toes pointed in too much? Is that causing stress to my knee joint? (I do have a slight out turn to my feet normally).

If anyone has any suggestions for how to prevent this please let me know.

Thanks...Bill

being 56, I share the pain. I don't see it mentiond what you use, but I too had the problem, until I went to SPD type pedals/clips/shoes (from toe straps) and good shoes. The pain virtually disappeared. Takes awhile to get used to, and a significant investment but one of the best things I ever did.

Bike problems that can cause knee problems:

Too little knee extension (saddle too low; knees too bent at bottom of stroke).

Knee too far forward at bottom of stroke (saddle not far enough back).

Cranks too long (too much flex in knee at top of stroke, but saddle height is correct).

Pushing high gears too much (instead of spinning more in lower gears).

As a 51 year old arthritis sufferer myself, I can attest to how critically important it is to get bike fit and positioning absolutely dialled in.

Amen to that! The best thing anyone can do is to get their bikes fitted to them. Yes it cost money, but it helps make sure that all your equipment is in the best place to suit you. Good luck and get to a bike shop right away. If that doesn't work then I suggest(like most peole) that you see a doctor for futher advice.
