General Cycling Discussion - Pre-Trek Gary Fisher SuperCaliber - what's it worth?

I am the original owner of a 1992 Gary Fisher SuperCaliber. It has a lifetime warranty on the aluminum frame. Recently the headtube developed hairline cracks. The local dealer took pics to send on the Trek for warranty info & they offered me $500 toward the purchase of a new bike today.

I feel this bike is worth more than $500, but I'm grateful they offered me something. What is the bike worth? I recall seeing one on eBay recently which was $1100 - $1200 due to collector value.

Keep in mind, only the frame cracked, not the whole bike. And if it's indeed pre-Trek, the year or two before Trek bought the Fisher brand ('90-'91, '91-'92?), Fisher bikes had been essentially bankrupt and sold the brand to another company (I don't know who), who had the bikes made overseas instead of California. This year or two period just before Trek bought the brand is considered a low point for Fishers in terms of quality. If your bike is a '92, and '92 is pre-Trek, it seems likely your bike is one of these bikes. I would feel fortunate to get the offer of $500 shop credit if I were you. My .02, your opinion may differ, of course-

I think high collector value pretty much dwindles once the frame is cracked. It's sort of like a Hot Wheels taken out of its package or a baseball card that spent a few months in a 10-year-old's bike spokes. Go for the $500 and get a nice deal on a bike with all new parts.

If Trek didn't make the bike they didn't have to offer you anything. Take the offer before they change their mind.
