I fully concede that chemical imbalances do happen, and are tragic.

And my point again...unless you suffer from it or you treat it, you do not know if the woman in this story suffers from a chemical imbalance or not (although, it would seem pretty obvious by the huge hairball removed from her stomach that something ain't right). And yet, you not only make the assumption she isn't, you go on to make broad generalizations about anyone suffering from depression. Honestly, yes, you are being brutish.

I have a 40 year old sister who still lives at home with my parents who has suffered her entire life from schizophrenia, and it has been devastating for her and my family in ways that cannot be measured. For the first five years of her disease presenting symptoms, she was told by all of us and others to just pull it together and "get over it" - "it" being severe depression, extreme anxiety, high mania, inability at times to function, hearing voices and having hallucinations. She damn near stabbed one of my parents with a carving knife before she was finally taken seriously and received the help she desperately needed. After years of blood tests, MRIs, CTs, behavioral panel screenings, etc., it has been determined that she has an extreme chemical imbalance that is the absolute basis of her disorder/disease. She isn’t faking it or using it as any excuse. Personally, I can't imagine anyone going through what she did just to have an excuse for not wanting to function in our society (i.e. check out and feel sorry for herself).

Never assume, and know that making light of it just perpetuates the "anyone can have a mental disorder" mentality that lumps all mental illness/chemical imbalance sufferers together as pathetic losers who are just using excuses for their behavior (I disagree that a majority of alcoholics use an imbalance as an excuse to drink, by the way - of course, I don't know the "majority" of them or what "excuses" they give themselves, so I'm not one to assume anything). Wow...it never occurs to me when I'm depressed, drinking too much, laying on my couch stuffing bon-bons in my mouth, unshowered and disheveled, watching movies with the blinds closed that I could also start munching on my hair. I'll keep that in the back of my mind, so that I too can claim to have a disorder to explain my behavior.

So...my Aussie Football link was funny, huh?

ME: Ain't no more arguing from me. You win. Too many misunderstandings, assumptions, postulates and hypotheses in there to argue anyway. I, also, don't care enough about it to argue. Sorry. Find another sap to browbeat. ;)

I do! Then she get's all blahblah saying how I blahblah and that I never blahblah for her needs. And that I never listen to her and blahblah and how I'm never blahblah....Who knows what she's saying half the time?

You know what I've learned from you men? You can't stand women who speak up and like to debate. If we express ourselves and give strong opinions or call you on your behavior, you guys first blahblah , and then you call us "brow beaters," clam up, tune us out and don't listen. I say she shouldn't beat you at all and, instead, just let you sit in the corner and blahblah to yourself.

You men? Never assume...that's being brutish, lady.

Besides...I don't go online for arguments. Life's too short, and the internet too impersonal (no body language, tonal fluctuations and nuance, winks, noogies, or dry humping) to actually make the argument interesting in the slightest.

Sure, it's fun to instigate, but when I'm being called out, that's when I back off. Call me a wuss, but I prefer to fight battles I actually have a chance at winning.

Arguing on the internet is a battle I know I'll never win...simply because I'm far too prone to both sarcasm and pessimism. I'm man enough to admit that.

So, you're saying - I won :D

And I do assume that it's all you damn men. Men, men, men. MEN!

Oh....wow. I just got excited...:o

I nuked my original post due to a couple of PMs...seems I might shouldn't have done that. I was merely speaking in cycling terms and showing how easy it is to be misunderstood. :o:D

Not tattlling, more publicizing, in an impresarial sort of way.
How can you tattle on someone after they've posted on THEINTERNET?

Oh. So you're providing me with free PR, are you? Uh-uh. You, sir, are crossing forums. Putting posts from Road Cycling into So Cal is like crossing beams, which is something one should never do. Didn't you see this film and learn anything????

But didn't Egan later recommend to cross the streams?

There is no Dana, only Zuul.

I think we're going about this the wrong way...this Sta-Puft guy...he's a sailor, he's in New York...we get this guy laid, we've got no problem.

But Egon, you said crossing the streams was 'bad'.

Where do these stairs go?
They go up.

Go get her, Ray!
