Training & Nutrition - setting up trainer?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It seems everytime I set up my trainer with my bike I cant get it to pedal as smoothly as I would hope to. After setting it up and trying to pedal I get an uneven pedal cadence. half a pedal rotation is smooth then it gets too smooth. it gets annoying. Anybody know a way to set this up so it feels flawless as you pedal. any help would be great.

Can you give us more information:
Type and Brand of Trainer? (magnetic, hydraulic)
Type of bike? (road, mountain, hybrid, BMX, tricycle)
Type of tire? (size, tread type)
etc.
Thanks.

I wonder if your rear wheel is out of round?

Probably not enough mass in the trainer and/or wheel. There's no momentum involved--on the road, the momentum of the bike helps push it along.
Maybe buy a steel rim, can't cost that much...
Check the tire resistance against the drum. If the pressure is too loose, you can slip on the drive train side. I give just enough to make firm contact and test by rotating the drum, observing how the wheel rotates. By suddenly swithing directions on the drum rotation, I can see if the wheel slips. If so, I add a tad more pressure.
