Introductions - Hi All

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

An avid road biker years ago (30! holy sh*t) I have found myself getting interested in road biking again.
I still have an old Rex Criterium in the garage but technology has changed in a big way and am looking to get current and not exceed my needs. I have a cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway and look forward to riding the parkway (in select areas) in the near future. I realize this is a big topic but any thoughts about what I need to get would be appreciated.
I am about 180lbs somewhat fit, but I am expecting I may feel different about my perceived fitness level after a long climb.

Hello Mike, first question is usually what kind of budget you've set...and whether or not you plan on moving somewhere where you might need more than one gear.

Hi Easthill,
I tend to buy better gear than I need..I've got to get a handle on that someday. I am watching a few bikes on ebay but I need to get up on frame sizing etc. I am close enough to the Blue Ridge to go and ride there anytime I can get a few days off. I was going to move there until our real estate hit the skids.
Love your blog! I have sent some friends of mine to it. One of our locals does a nature/travel photo blog you may like. I'll PM the link when I get it.

If you can afford it, it's a good idea to buy more bike than you think you need at the moment...especially since the reason for asking about moving is because you currently don't really need a lot of gears in Florida. But you will need gears if you ride in the Blue Ridge :D . Since you said that in the past you were an avid biker, I would guess that a lower end bike would not keep you happy for long.
Check out some of the stickies in the Road Cycling forum--they are sorted according to how much your budget can stand.
Thanks for the comments about the blog! I wondered how I got a person from Florida looking at my slugs :D . I would love the link, I always enjoy nature/travel photo blogs.
