BMX - who makes a good 16" BMX bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am looking for a quality bike for my 5 year old.
I have looked at the Redline "proline pitboss", the Redline "MX16", the GT "MachOne Jr.". I have been out of the BMX scene for many years.
Please give me some suggestions.
Thanks,

I just began racing again this year for the first time since 1985. I can tell you that in 7 races this year and hundreds back in the 1980's I have never seen anyone race a 16" bike. If the purpose for purchase is just for fun than fine... Go ahead and get a 16". If you have any desire to have your son race then get a micro sized 20" bike. There are tons of them out there at reasonable prices. The bike itself will be the most insignificant aspect of your sons performance and enjoyment. His practice and the support of his loving Daddy will mean more to the sucess of riding or racing BMX than anything else. I will tell you that you may very well be able to save a lot of money by buying the bike online rather than from a bike shop. J & R BMX, and Dan's Competition BMX are both great online stores. They have lot's of complete bikes available as well as components and gear.

Ah.... I race a 16". (35&over, 50-55 cruiser) People my age usually race em in an open. You can run em in 20" class for yucks. If there is no one in my class and I'm on the gate with a bunch of little guys, I'll break out the pit bike. You call em Pit bikes. I have a Kappa. (sized for an Adult)
If I was to buy a kid a 16", the S&M complete 16" is pretty cool. Alot of the kids at the track also have DK's, and Hoffmans. (16" that is)
