Hi Everybody,

I am new to this group. I've decided to start shopping around for a rtoad bike since I cant seem to find enough off road trails around where I live to make it worth while. Plus I need a new toy.

I'l like to know people experieinces with either carbon bikes (i.e Trek OCLV) or titanium bikes (i.e. Litespeed Sienna) . Which do they think is better?

I want to go for 40km rides ussually and once in awhile longer ones. (100 at the most). I also want to get something thats very light sub 3 lbs frame/ sub 18lbs total and a frame that will last forever.

The only snag here is I am on a budget (~ $2 - 2.5K). I want to start by buying a bike and get some really good wheel Ksyriums and Ulterga or 105 or even lower and then build it upslowly with just the parts I want. I did this pretty well on my mtb. Its 5 years old and still lighter than most of the stuff out there.

Thanks.

-George:)

First of all, that's a pretty good budget!

I bought a Trek 5200 OCLV last year. It is my first real road bike, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, I did demo several other bikes - both steel and aluminum. I found the carbon to be the best compromise between responsiveness, and comfort for me. I absolutely love my Trek. It fits me very well, and I love the way it rides.

Test ride as many bikes as you can. Remember that fit is the most important factor!!!

Good luck! :)

I bought a Scattante CFR Carbon bike with Ultegra from Supergo.com a few months ago. It now is $1600 for a double, more for a triple. Read reviews on roadbikereview.com and the Supergosite. You should know how to fit, adjust and do maintenance if you buy via websites. Check wrenchscience.com for a good fit program.
