i'm completely inept.

just took a taillight out of its package and can't figure out where to mount it. the only logical place is taken up by my rear reflector that came stock on the bike. Please help! need to install tonight as i bought all the gear necessary for my first in-the-dark ride tomorrow morning

Most of the time you mount it on the seatpost and depending on how much room you have there, you may need to remove the reflector that's already there. What taillight do you have and do you have a rack or anything else that could obscure the view of the taillight?

Most taillights come with a smaller mount. You can use this and mount it to the seat stay. I mount mine on the left seat stay. Just make sure it clears the rear wheel. Then you can keep the reflector where it is.

As we found out tonight, one of the best places for a taillight is the back of your helmet - very visible!

helmet, jersey pocket, saddle bag, seat post, seat stay, chain stay. Anywhere it will fit and can be held securely. Don't be afraid to supplement the brackets and mounts with ties.
