Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

 whoshhhhhhh....... Im back:D
Is that in Birmingham? I need to break out my fixed gear Ciocc and head down there.
Edit, just noticed the lack of SUV, prevalence of hatchbacks, and what looks like actual culture. Definitely not America.

 I was thinking the same thing!
People of relatively normal height have it easy street when it comes to finding nice old bikes, be they road for conversion or track already. The rest of us get the short end of the stick (or the tall end, in my case).

You have your pick of women. We get the good bikes and airline seats.

You can see all that from a photo? Guess I need to get out more.

I wouldn't mind being around her. Although, I would inquire about the opened "fist sized" condom package hanging out of her backpack.

judging from the street signs and the ford ka, i would say that is belgium or somewhere similar, i would need one of our euro posters to verifiy
as for the fist sized condom package, i aint touching that one

To each their own. :)
Counting down until this thread is sacked.......
And the car is left hand drive, sort of negates the chance of Engerlanderland being the setting. Not completely negated, but not likely either.

here in birmingham there are more roller derby girls than there are single speeder/fixie riders.

Same here. I love the Dixie Derby Girls!
My guess is it's in Holland (The Netherlands), since the bike lanes are so clearly marked, they drive on the right side and the license plates are yellow. The girl looks "Dark Dutch" too.
Nice enough girl, and pretty bike. Wonder if it's FG or SS. If it's FG, at least she's sensible enough to understand the usefulness of brakes. Sadly, the concept of wearing a helmet hasn't occured to her yet.

Bikes, scooters, funny signs, wide streets... yup:)

Huh, there must be something wrong with me. I thought she's kind of nice. Crazy eyebrow stuff, but nice nonetheless.
Or France. Orange license plates.
Google video searched for "bike ride amsterdam", and saw the same kind of black/white striping on poles in a couple of vids I found. Yellow plates, again, point to Holland.
Also looks like a 50 cm frame size, and a shorter-than-she-looks girl - probably 5'2" to 5'4" or so.

Yeah, my eyebrows are not quite that weird. I was talking about the funny scar I have in my left eyebrow, but its pretty small.
How can you guys tell what size of frame it is looking at the picture?
I ride a 55 cm. :)

Remember that the wheels provide a great size reference (a circular object will always, no matter from what angle it's viewed, show its true diameter along one axis). Measuring the rim diameter can provide a scaling factor, and that factor can be used to calculate other lengths in the image, such as the C-T seat tube length. 50 cm in this case.
It's also possible to measure leg and upper body lengths, shoe size and gearing, for example, using the same method.
72-73 cm legs, 85-88 cm upper body, approximately. Europe size 37, US size 6.5 shoes.
39x13 gearing probably.
This is all assuming she's running 700C wheels.
How can you guys tell what size of frame it is looking at the picture?
One way is to do what I detailed in my previous post. Another is to simply compare the frame visually to the wheels. Seat stays to seat post angles and head tube lengths also provide clues.

Wow that's amazing!
I'm afraid most of my proportion calculations come from holding a pencil up and squinting with one eye. It's the artist in me.
There is some foreshortening, though. Forgot about that. In this case, increase the vertical lengths by about 3-4% (found by dividing the horizontal diameter of the rims to the vertical diameter). So she's probably a bit taller than I first though. And the bike is probably 52-53 cm then.

If you know the tube diameter, that works the same way:)

She doesn't look typically Dutch, nor does her bike, but it looks like Rotterdam - wide, post war streets, plus...

Well, she looks like "Dark Dutch", as I call it. You have your "Blond Dutch" as well. Examples in pics below:

I used to work with a bunch of Dutch people a few years back, and several of them had that dark look. Many more had dark hair and pale skin, and almost always thick and/or prominent lips - a trait I find to be typically Dutch. Hard to explain, perhaps. I am obsessed with faces, and I analyse every face I meet. :D

Well, yes, that dark appearance is common in Germany as well.

Not a big deal, until you hit the ground head first... ;)

she looks more typical german, than typical dutch, dark/indo/otherwise.
whatever. we seem to agree that she's in NL, despite the fact that she's on an atypical bike, but still in NL, possibly in Rotterdam, then again, possibly in Eindhoven...
