Foo - Odd gifts

What are the most odd gifts you have received? The ones that had absolutely nothing to do with the occasion, the ones that were obviously recycled (re-gifted), the ones that made you laugh so hard you either had to pass them on or keep them forever.

I can bend spoons with my mental powers and yet the bends are undetectable to anyone. That is my odd gift.

And I normally get my brother something weird and useless every year at Christmas, but I can't recall any of them currently.

You stay away from my book, someone already stole my Autographed Army of Darkness DVD. The book that was a gift was from me to my sister 3 or 4 years ago.

Once when I was a kid, the neighbors gave me two ducks for a birthday present.

One year(almost 13 years ago) I gave my wife a kitten for Valentines day. We still have kitty. Another Valentines, I got out my cutting torch and cut out a 1/4" thick piece of steel in the shape of a heart, welded our names on it, and painted it red. She still has it. :lol:

The only one that comes to mind is a "Chicken Soup For The Soul" book. A good friend of mine in college got it for me when I helped her with something. It was a beautiful thought....I started to read it and got through about 20 pages before my head burst into flames from sentimental mush overload.

I ended up passing it along (re-gifting it).

I "gave" and odd gift once, not intentionally.

When I was about 17, I'd read Lord of the Rings for the 2nd time and loved it so much I thought I needed to share it with my bro. He was not much of a reader, and not much in to fantasy. I thought it was only because he hadn't tried it.

Knowing he wouldn't read the books, I found a "graphic novel" version of Lord of the Rings and gave it to him for his birthday. I got the "uuuuuum...thaaaaanks". He was thinking, "a 100 page comic book about some crap I don't even like....great gift, bro".

25 qt rice steamer. Now ... how much rice does a single person living by herself eat? :)

Grandmother gave me an alarm clock every year for Christmas since I was about 10 (did she foresee my future as "Snoozer Abuzer"?).

And she gave my sister and I, every year, a "dress" aka shift like she wore -- one piece thing that snaps up the front, has a big pocket on the front and is always with some color/pattern so it looked like kitchen wallpaper. Sister and I were mortified - especially when we had to try it on, while my brothers were killing themselves laughing.:mad:

My mom used to be so worried about spending the EXACT same amount on my brother and I, that when it got down to end, she'd be in the dollar store trying to get things to the penny.

I remember once getting a metal popup address book thingy at the age of like 8.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! No joke, I bought it last year for myself. Although, I haven't actually watched it yet... but my sister and I watched that movie over and over as kids.

My grandmother sent me a birthday card on my 18th birthday that said "HAPPY 15th!" in her handwriting.

Shoulda consulted the rest of the clan, grandma...

Target used to have a back corner where all the REALLY clearance stuff was sold for cents on the dollar. I don't remember exactly what things were given but my ex father in law would buy up a bunch of this junk and give it for Christmas, birthdays, etc. He thought he was the pinnacle of thoughtfulness and frugality.

Oh I have to take a picture of the ramekins my roommate has -- in fact (and I do use them) I'm trying to get them from him - he puts rubber bands in them.

They are yellow and have LiveStrong on them, bout fainted when I saw them. He got them at Big Lots store. And he doesn't bicycle.

They shall be mine :)

My brother cracked me up one year. On Christmas after dinner he went and got a tote bag out of his car and started tossing at us, one by one, what we thought were bean bags. They were actually some kind of Filipino sponge cake, all individually wrapped and looked something like cupcakes. He said he bought a case of them and wanted us all to have some.

I looked down to check it out since I've never had one before and noticed mold on it. I leaned over to my sister and pointed out the green spots. She looked at hers and then leaned over to her husband and pointed at the spots on hers. He looked at his and leaned to the person next to him.

Finally I said "HEY!! YOU'RE PAWNING OFF YOUR MOLDY CAKE ON US!!"

Everybody started to pelt him with them. Even grandma chucked hers at him. It was hilarious.

Little did he know, I brought one home, put it in the freezer and gave it to him for Christmas the following year.

My uncle once got me a watch when I was about 15. He wrapped it in about 8 successively bigger boxes, each one duct taped so thoroughly that it took about 45 minutes to get through them all to the watch (they made me do it all by hand, no sharp utensils allowed).

my twin brother and i were given, sneak king, and one of the other $4.00 xbox games from burger king from my older brother. Obviously this was a joke that at the time was hilarious.

Heh my dad did that to me the year he got me my discman (my first CD player...I used it until the spindle fell off).

He used a microwave box as the outer, and kept going and going until I hit a small box for a discman carrier (remember those square pouches that held the discman in a zippered pocket, and a CD wallet in the other?...yep one of those)....inside was the carrier, the discman (batteries loaded), and an Aerosmith CD to get me started.

I was so tired after all that.....I got back at him this year by doing that to the iPod Nano I gave him....it was engraved on the back with "Now it's your turn pops!" (had a local jeweler do the engraving since Apple quit doing that) He got a good laugh out of that. By the way, I loaded the rip of that same Aerosmith album onto the iPod for him :)

Once I received a set of chopsticks from an aunt, I was 13.
Also at a friends Christmas party each year we play a gag gift game and I brought an electric corn cob toilet paper

I once gave my brother-in-law a gift certificate.

It was in one of those nested gift boxes - 12 boxes getting smaller and smaller, all inside one another. He got to the smallest one, and the message told him he missed it and to go back to the 5th box... so he had to put them all back together to figure out which one that was. He finally got that one, and looked at it... wtf?

The certificate was inside the lid hidden behind black paper that looked exactly like all the other lids.

Also gave him a bottle of wine, that was locked inside one of those mind puzzle things.

I sent my sister a pair of "moose nugget" earrings for christmas, you know those dried moose droppings shellacked and set with a hoop on them. They were/are about one inch in diameter and brown. :)

The next year she went out to her rabbit hutch and sent me a tin of rabbit droppings, only she picked up the ripe ones, nice and wet. When I got them (mailed to Adak) during the slow mail trip they grew hair and started to stink. When I opened them up all the guys in the fire dept. were wondering what the stink was and I showed them the

"hairy rabbit balls of poop. "

They thought my family was strange. Who would have thunk it. :)
