... in NINE CONSECUTIVE DAYS?

(That's figuring a week's vacation + two weekends)

Mine is 260 in nine days, but that's during a normal work week. Haven't attempted the vacation-thing yet.

Man, anyone who can answer this question, is way more obsessive about tracking mileage data than I am.

I probably couldn't tell you how many miles I rode in the *last* 9 days Though I've been riding mostly on the road bike, and the computer on my road bike saves ride date for up to 7 rides, so I could make a pretty good estimate.

I'd guess my highest mileage 9-day stretch would've been somewhere on the Great Divide a few years ago.

I'm not obsessive, Trevor. I'm just curious if anyone ever took a vacation week and thought, "Now, just how far can I go if I had the time to ride..."

I goofed - I hit 100 - 199 miles not really reading the entire post - in 9 days I have ridden 745 miles (through Utah on vacation).

In the nine days starting Sept 23 (GT lite that day) I've ridden 455, that includes Lighthouse, a club
ride and normal commute.

More than usual.

a little over 500, but that was a LONG time ago. Back in my college/racing days, we rode the San Diego AYH (Now Hostelling International) annual Christmas trip - 6 days and app 400 miles - between Dec 26 and Dec 31, then rode the SDBC New Years Day Century on Jan 1. That was the kickoff of our winter base training for the upcoming season. But it has been almost 30 years...haven't done anything that crazy since.

My best in nine days is 625.43 (the week I did my first double century) :)

Mr. Beanz
10-03-07, 04:38 PM
I'd say about 350. Two centuries, back to back Saturdays. Then 42 on Sundays. Then maybe 2- 30 milers during the week. That was a normal work week back when I was riding alot!

AND, best in one month is 960 miles. I cheesed out on the other 40 to make my first and only 1k month. That was from the 1st to the 31st, none of this 13th thru the 14th stuff!:D

Wow, that took a bit of work to figure out... in the 9 days from June 16-24 I rode 761.5 miles. That includes the Grand Tour and the longest day of the year and I was trying to have a 7 day 100 mile average, but another obligation on Wednesday June 20 and food poisoning on Friday June 22 made that impossible.

My highest week (Monday-Sunday, not any 7 consecutive days) is June 18-24 545 and highest month is June 2007 with 2071.

The Christmas trip still goes every December 26-- I've done it enough times that I'm starting to lose track, but I think it's 7 of the last 8 now. Or maybe 8 of the last 9. Registration is open for this year's trip, and it's still lots of fun!

Hi,

This year's greatest 9 day mileage was about 270 miles. Probably had higher 9 day mileage in the 1980s but I'm not going going to go back to all of those old paper training diaries. ;)

You also forgot capitalization, the apostrophe in "it's," and the period.

"It's FURTHEST not farthest."

In any case you're wrong. Either word is acceptable. n00b.

Since your mouse is broken and can't click on links here is the quote:

Kenneth G. Wilson (1923–). The Columbia Guide to Standard American English. 1993.

farther, fartherest, farthest, further, furtherest, furthest (advs., adjs.)

Use either farther or further as an adjective for literal distance (The airport is farther [further] than I had figured), but also use further to mean “additional,” as in She gave a further opinion that evening. (The adjective further used to be limited to such figurative uses, just as farther continues to be applied only to literal distance.) As adverbs, farther and further are nearly interchangeable today, although further is much more frequently used: We walked further [occasionally farther] today than ever before. He expanded further [rarely farther] on his original proposal. But use only further as a sentence adverb: Further, he insisted that we stay overnight. (Some commentators predict that further will one day overwhelm farther in all uses except the adjective meaning “literal physical distance.”) See also ALL THE. 1
Farther and further are comparatives, both based ultimately on the adjective far. Farthest and furthest are the superlatives: This is the farthest [furthest] point reached by the paved road. Quitting was the thought furthest [farthest] from my mind. These uses are Standard; the forms fartherest and furtherest are Vulgar English and Substandard.

Double n00b.

I think I can do 400-500 in a week+ in good weather. Although I'd actually have to take a vacation, something I haven't done in three years.

How fur have you ridden, Ovo? :p

I'm basically a hack rider and each year take a week long vacation to ride through someplace. For instance the last trip I took ws through Montana last July. We had one rest day and the other 6 days averaged 70+ miles each day (we actually had two 95+ days and then 2 50+ mile days and 2 70+ days). It's not a race - it's a vacation and you ride at a comfrotable pace to enjoy the scenary. If you want to ride hard and fast you can, but generally I ride and stop to take lots of photos. The Utah trip I took from Blanding (just east of Moab) to St. George was the longest and had tons of climbing but the struggle and miles were worth it as the scenary was sooooo beautiful. Only problem was chafing from day to day sitting on a saddle with damp shorts. You really learn a chamois creme is your friend! With all the riding you do, if you are thinking of a bike vacation, you should have no problem!

I didn't read the first post, just voted...
Assuming that it was for one ride, not over a week...
So my vote doesn't count.

Thing is, whats the conversion for Mtb to Road miles.
something like dog years and Human years?

In a week I'll ride both, and it's much easier to get in 50 road miles than 20 Mtb miles...

Anybody ridden double centuries on back to back weekends?

Rick@OCRR
10-04-07, 08:59 AM
Yes Ron,

Last year I rode Knoxville and then Tour of Two Forests (or . . . One Desert).

Then, while training for PBP in '90 and '91 we used to ride from St. Louis up to Kirksville, MO on Sat. (200 miles, yes), then back to St.Louis on Sunday. One time I didn't home until after 1:00 AM (tough staying awake on that drive back home from the finish).

Then I called in to work that I would be a bit late on Monday . . . I think I got there around 10:00 AM.

Also, back in the day, Lon Haldeman used to have a ride called "Double Trouble" that was a double on Sat. and another double on Sun. Don't know if that still happens, but I suspect not.

And of course, PBP is like three doubles in a row, then another 150 miles.
