I was riding on Monday along Hwy1 between Cayucos and Cambria in the Central Coast of CA. Along the same stretch many of you rode the previous Saturday for the Light House Century. I am headed North against forecasted 15mph head wind with some gust of 25. I know this going in and view it as another way to work out. I am starting a small climb into Cambria going 9+mph when one of those 25mph gust hits me. It was so weird. The bike just stopped moving forward and I stopped pedaling. I was frozen in time held upright for about two seconds by the wind. I never felt like I was going to fall over or in any danger. I was just held captive then released. Everything was held in balance. I instinctively started pedaling again and moved on never un-clipping. Strangest wind event I have had to date.

I will take head wind or tail wind (both kinds) over a cross wind any day.

Yeah the cross winds on the 46 descent sucked...I was looking forward to blasting down that hill...but had to slow way down....

I dont get affected by side winds so much because I dont weigh 120lbs

yea, cross winds don't seem to affect me very much.

That sucks doesn't it? My tough wind ride was about a month before BA. I was training on Mt Baldy Rd. I was on a step section when the wind blew about 30 mph and stopped me dead in my tracks. Like you no fall but a strange feeling indeed! What was even stranger was on the way down. I was at about 40 with a tailwind when a big gust caught me from behind. Felt like it lifted my bike off the ground. I rode the brakes the rest of the way down. That was scary!

Wind? What is this wind you speak of? It's a good thing the wind never blows in the AV.

I have a sort of love-hate thing going with wind. I love that it makes the workout that much harder but hate how much it slows me down. I don't have any specific story about wind because it's windy pretty much every day. Have I said the word "wind" enough in this post?
