I think it actually belongs to the Jehovah's Witnesses, but I'd love for Jim to steal it back from them.

I didn't know Bob Dylan did it. Who's was the original?

EthanYQX

Bob's. Dylan was Jimi's idol.

Bob's. Dylan was Jimi's idol.

OK...I figured so. I don't see Dylan as much of a "cover" artist. He's the genius who others cover.

That being said, I'd go with Jimi. I loved Bob's lyrics, but hated his voice.

Jimi. I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that Dylan thinks Jimi's is superior.

Most boring version is the Dave Matthews Band.

Lots of people seem to feel that way. For my part, I play it tuned down half a step, and I don't sing nearly as nasaly.

I don't think anybody on this planet does sing nearly as nasaly.

Bob writes them, others play them. That's how I like it.

Jimi's Watchtower. Bob's just about everything else.

Hey. Don't be dissin Bobby. He did more with a 4 note range than most people could have done with two whole octaves. :p

Jimi Hendrixand Bob Dylan were two of the greatest. I love Jimi's rendition of the watchtower. It is the best.

Bob Dylan is one of those artists that leaves me in awe. Girl of the North Country is my favorite, but I still like Joe Cocker's cover of it on Mad Dogs and Englishman better, but then a song like that comes out of Cocker's heritage, his soul, so it makes sense he could do it better.

The Greatful Dead version (Bob Weir vocals) was not bad either... not as good as Jimi Hendrix though.

Neither.

I like the Grateful Dead version best.
... not as good as Jimi Hendrix though. I don't normally care for Bobby's songs, but this is an exception. It's much better than Jimi's, IMO.

Bob Dylan is one of those artists that leaves me in awe.
I'm not much on the first 30+ years of his stuff, but in 1997 he released Time Out Of Mind. This album is almost like Miles' Kind of Blue for me. I can listen to it over and over. The gravel in Dylan's voice from the heavy hearted start in "Love Sick" to the road weary blues of "Cold Irons Bound" to the meandering 15+ minutes of "Highlands" is almost hypnotic. There seems something new on each listen that I missed the first few dozen times around. Great album.

U2's version is teh sux0rz.

Jimi has this one all sewn up from the moment he hits that first full-step bend :D

One of the first songs I learned when I took up electric guitar seriously some years back.

Here's the ultimate compliment from Dylan from this site about Jimi's version (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2325):

Dylan was so impressed with Jimi's version that Dylan for years played it the way that Jimi had recorded it.

Crank! Dylan! My goodness. I can't cover my ears enough when that guy starts making noises. Holy moly.

I had to vote both because they are both such good songs. The key is, though, such different songs.

He can't sing, but he's an excellent songwriter.
