Hey there, I just started riding this summer and as the days have begun cooling down (I live in Maryland), I've begun to wonder about what I am going to do during the winter. I've made so much progress and I'd really like to keep it up. What can I do to keep riding, whether it be outdoors or indoors? I've already looked a bit into rollers and resistance trainers but I'd like to hear from people's experiences with them. Thanks!

One of the forums here is all about winter riding. I learned quite a bit. Much of it is common sense but there are some bike issues worth purusing. You'll also learn about other winter websites. I'll try posting these when I get on my own pc.

I personally appreciate your feelings because in the spirit of keeping my new found biking enthusiasm alive, I recently purchased a singlespeed with fenders, wide tire options, etc.. I plan on doing my best to ride outside before looking at a trainer.

I bought some rollers last year. Depending on where in MD you are I would be happy to loan them to you if you want to try them out.

That being said I much prefer riding outside even when it is cold. I had this hangup about riding outside, but then realized I enjoy skiing in cold weather. Properly dressed riding in the cold is not bad at all. In fact I kinda enjoy the cold better than the sweltering heat of the summer.

Winter is my favorite time of the year for riding. So long as you're appropriately dressed (layers!), the sensation is like swimming in a cool lake without getting wet. It took several rides to get used to it, as well as how to dress for various temperatures, but now I'm obsessed with it. I can't wait for the temperature to drop, with absolutely nirvana being when it hits the early teens or -- dare to dream? dare! dare! -- single digits. Have never biked in subzero temperature, but I hope to some day.

And yeah, the winter biking section is a good place for tips and suggestions.
