Mountain Biking - I need a seatpost--ideas?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
What are some options for a rigid 28.6 x 350mm black post? I am not in need of ultralight/ultra high $ models. I'd like to spend $40 or less (even better). I would like the clamp area to hold up well though and would like a nice amount of clamp offset/setback. Thanks.
Easton EA50 Seatpost
RaceFace Prodigy Seatpost
Ritchey Comp ATB Seatpost
I would check the usual suspects: Nashbar, Supergo, Performance, Jensen
Unfortunately, a 28.6 is hard to find as it's an old school size. None of the ones you suggested come in it. I have heard I can run a 27.2 with a shim--what are probs if any with the shim option? How are Kalloy and Kalloy Uno posts?--all I know is they are cheap $ and from Taiwan but do come in 28.6.
Erf. I'm sorry. I was reading that as 26.8mm. I've never run seatpost shims but people I've talked to have expressed displeasure with them. I couldn't get any details out of them though. Maybe they were just opposed to the principle of shims. I used to have a Kalloy post on an old MTB and it was okay. Cheap, easy to adjust but a little heavy. They were unassuming and unimpressive but they did the job of holding my saddle in place.
It looks like American Classic makes a 28.6mm post.

Also, RaceFace makes a 28.6mm post but it's a bit pricey.

I can strongly recommend the Raceface XY post if you can afford it.
Otherwise I've good experience with shims on seatposts - no problems - no slippage or movement at all.

Nashbar was selling some wierd size post on closeout, I'd recommend checking there! www.nashbar.com
I can't say enough about Thomson Elite posts. They're also pricey, but they last forever. You can find some on eBay for around $45.

Same experience here. The clamping mechanism can't be beat, and the thing is real tough. It looks good too. I had a problem with my stock seatpost and picked up the Thomson the second season I had the bike. I'm definitely sticking with Thomson from now on. I've got a stem from them for my MTB on the way as well. They do seem a bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for.

You won't be able to run a 27.2 seatpost with a shim, since the diameter of you're seat tube is 26.8 which is smaller. You would have to get let's say a 25 seatpost and a shim to bring it up to 26.8.
Titec has a few on close out that are that size.. for around $20-40.. here is one of them with setback

I made that mistake when I read the original post. bikeme wants a 28.6mm post and not a 26.8mm post.

LOL, I did the same thing looking for posts. I got excited about all the options I saw until I looked closer at the numbers--oops flip-flop.
