View Full Version : Which tyre?

I have the tyres that came with my MTB standard chunky tread things and some hybrid slicks (which I bought for commuting) with chunky tread on the outside edges but nice and slick tread in the middle like a road tyre.

I'm looking at doing a trip tomorrow which will be about 15 miles long with a 2 mile off road segment, mainly mud & stone trails up a 400m hill. Now I am tore between which tyres to use. As most of the journey will be on road the hybrid tyres would be quickest but will they be up to off road use?

Any advice & comments welcome!

Daniel

How gnarly is the trail? Are we talking offroad rock-garden, cobblestone ala Paris-Roubaix or crushed limestone?

its a foot path, not too steep or twisty, fairly compact earth with stones. No huge bolders or rock gardens on the trial I will be using.

I'd imagine your commuter tyre would handle it fine.

Your commuting tyres sound similar to my Vredestein Spiders which I'd happily take off road on that sort of track assuming it's fairly dry.

Go with the commuter tires. Two miles of foot path won't hurt them.
