I've got to beat this damn computer this time. I've worked out every single move and I think the cards are already dealt for me. This is the winning move. So far I've had him on the run but he's built a strong defence. What would you do?

Advice that someone should give Donovan McNabb.

Bring your bishop into play as it is protected by the knight.

or maybe king side pon to h5 - it may come in handy as an anchor for your bishop or knight, you know?

Nah man.. white bishop takes black (his) bishop, knight takes bishop, queen takes knight.. it's no good w/o a pon to back them up. imo.
black is already losing with those stacked pawns...fail

You certainly wouldn't be winning with that losing attitude. :P

Can't move there no? Pawn is occupying apace.
Bring your bishop into play as it is protected by the knight.
He'll block me out with the pawn or start a trading war that he will win :(
Stacked pawns are bad indeed but there might be something here.
I am thinking pawn on g7 to g6 to set up a defence and attack by moving pawn h7 to h5. The hot spot is g4

^^ Maybe he should get it on with his queen :D -? I never understood that about chess.. why you trying to trap the other side's 'king'? That's gay imo. . -not that there's anything wrong w/ that, it's just that it seems a potentially less motivating asperation/goal to male hetero chess players, than to capture the pootnanny.

Oh, my bad.. my counting skillz are bit off. I like the way you think holmes.. also if you advance your pawns you can maybe use them to attack his sheilding kingside pawns and make his king vunerable.
The hot spot is c4...for white. You might just want to concede.;)

ok, p-c4.
Ok I see so that will bring his knight back over into the center. So maybe I can put bishop to e6 then I can get my queen behind the bishop.
Ok here goes...
I truly suck at chess. I've played a few times. Never won. I've even lost to the least intelligent person I've ever met (I'm not kidding!). He's close to ********, but still beat me. Wish I knew why chess is so difficult for me. Strategy games on a computer rarely present much of a challenge.

Oh well it's over in what chess aficionados know as, a blunder. I hate that! It took me three hours to play this damn game and I am mentally dead and decide to move my freekin queen right in the line of fire. Ahhhhh!!!!
Normally when I play with friends we just laugh at each other and allow the other guy to take back his move. But NOOO not the damn computer no way buddy game over :(

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

This is yet another reason why Linux sucks. in real operating systems (like Windows Vista), every chess program has a "withdraw move" function to allow you to go back in time if you do something really goofy. This is thanks to the MS Chess API 3.1, which comes standard in the Home Premium and Ultimate versions of Vista. Beats the crap out of n00buntu. Switch now, thank me later.

some linux chess programs will allow you to have mulligans
bit late in your game now, but the trick with computer chess programs is either doing something it isn't programmed for, like sacrificing pieces with the payoff several moves later, or basically play for a stalemate and wait till it makes a mistake

It's winnable, you just need to deploy your pawns a bit better on the right side of the board.
The big problem here was your pieces were not spread out early enough so you got boxed in. You gotta be aggressive.
And NEVER trade a piece for a piece unless the trade will checkmate (or seem like it) the opponent. Any other trade is just foolishness.
The standard rule in chess on trading pieces is never trade pieces if you are down in points. The rule is also interpreted to never trade a piece for a piece of lesser value. eg. bishops and knights are generally assigned a value of three but the bishop is considered to actually be a 3.2 to the knights three, so a trade of a bishop for a knight is a very slight loss. A rook is a 5 so never trade a rook for a bishop, on and on. I've never heard not to trade a piece unless the trade will result in a checkmate. Do you have a reference on this?
some linux chess programs will allow you to have mulligansi'm pretty sure one of the limitations of the 2.6.x linux kernels is that mulligans cause a buffer overflow. they had to disable this functionality on a system-wide level in order to keep the kernel safe from h4x0rs.
