I just bought a carbon fiber bike and while cleaning it I noticed the derailleur clamp on the seat post was moved up and it left a mark on the cf, not much, I can feel it with my finger nail. Should I be worried about it? I don't think it would fail, I was just wondering if water can get in there.

Ride on, mate. No worries. Maybe get some clear nail polish at WaltMart to use as a protectant.

A clamp-on derailleur on a CF bike?

That's pretty odd...I had assumed that all CF bikes would use the braze-on style of derailleur mount.

My girlfriends Orbea Orca had a clamp on....

I'm also surprised that anyone would intentionally put a clamp-on derailleur on a CF frame. I don't think I've ever seen that. I think it will probably be OK but don't think it's a good idea. I've owned 5 CF bikes and they've all had braze-on type FD hangers.

It looks like a clamp on, how does the braze-on type look?

You guys were right it is a braze-on.

Is it a braze-on fd fitted with an adapter clamp? What the other posters are referring to is that the frame has a tab mounted on the seat tube that the fd bolts to and there is no circular clamp. These are common on carbon frames but not at all universal.

It's on a Specialized Roubaix and it looks like it does have the fd on a adapter clamp.

Many CF frames use clamp on FR der. No biggie.

I just found a picture and it is a clamp on. I guess they mounted it and then moved it up. The more I look at it, I guess it's not as bad as it sounds. It's just a little dent and it should be ok. I guess after spending that kind of money, I was going over it with a fine tooth comb. Thanks again for all the replys.
