I'm in the market for a new mountain bike. I've decided on a hardtail in the $800 - $1000 price range. I had never seen a Yeti until just the other day at a LBS. I test rode the Yeti and it was a sweet ride. My question is what does everyone think of the Yeti FRO? The LBS has it for $1000, is this a good price? Finally, are there other more worthy bikes out there at this price point?

I have the fro. it is a great bike. $1000 is a good price. I think the retail was around $1300. the frame is very responsive and quick. if you want a hardtail, i think the fro is hard to beat. very light and well equipped. Although some complain about manitou forks, i have had no problems with the skareb that comes with the fro. i did change out the handlebars to monkeylites and added eggbeaters. yeti is a solid brand that makes great frames. it is made in america, and it has a higher price to reflect that. I cross-shopped with the stumpjumper and cannondale offerings and picked the fro after seeing it. at this price point, all the bikes will be great and nicely equipped so it comes down to personal preference. if you want to spend $1000 and you want a hardtail, the fro would be perfect. there is also some satisfaction for me having a bike that is a little less common.

Here is a pic of my yeti:

www.yetifan.com has some good info on it as well, particularly for yeti fans (oddly enough).
