Burely Canto for first Bent?

As new, if I can get it locally for $300 - 350 and spend a few hundred to upgrade the drive train.

Would use it for occasional rides in the country.

Would this be a bad choice to try out the Bent platform?

My riding partner has used his Canto for over 13,500 miles, and it is still going strong. The only real mechanical failure was the seat frame which was fixed under warranty.

Great price. I say go for it.

Sure, at first it will be occasional rides in the country. Soon, you'll be riding the bent every weekend, making excuses to use the Burley more and more, and totally neglecting your other bikes. After that, you start looking for a faster recumbent...all classic symptoms. Might as well sell your DFs now.

Great idea to buy a lowcost used bent. The Canto is a good choice and may meet all your needs. Worst case you'll learn what you like and don't like so that you can make a better choice on your next bent. At the price you noted you'll be able to resell it with no loss at a later date.

I know a local Burley rider who is very happy with his SWB bent - not sure which model he rides though.

As long as he understands Burley is out of the bicycle business
and hence value of the warranty is up in the air. The company
reorganized last year and is only making bike trailers at present.
Major failures on the frame (not expected or historically a problem)
would destroy the value, but for the price listed you could do
a lot worse.

Very few bike companies warranty a bike to anyone, but the original owner. Given the cost I wouldn't be worried at all.

The Canto was a heavy bike and it felt hard to get that bike up to speed. A dual 26 high racer was another story.

Looks like I won't try a bent 'til spring. She won't take less than $500.

I want something a bit sexier and more reclined than this one anyway.
