Hi.

I broke my derailleur hanger for the first time.

How does one find the right replacement hanger or are these fairly generic?

I have a SRAM X9 rear derailleur.

(p.s I broke this in a 50 mile race and miraculously made a single speed on the trail to finish the race. But that is another story.)

Thanks for the help,

- Mike

The derailleur hanger is frame specific. Your best bet would be to go to the dealer that you purchased your bike/frame from, they may have one in stock. If that doesn't work contact the manufacturer or check out derailleurhanger.com (http://www.derailleurhanger.com/).

It wasn't the Vermont 50 race was it? Were you riding an Epic?

Yes. It was the VT50. I ride a Stumpy FSR Comp. By buddy was riding an EPIC however.
