General Cycling Discussion - New York blackout, lot of people on foot, no bikes!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just watching the photos in the news paper, I notice a lot of people walking a huge traffic jam but no people riding bicycles. Probably because cyclist were already out of the mess. :p

Probably because the people dependent on the MTA don't have bikes to ride home.

Because they're all panicing....
silly silly people.
given the masses I saw out on the streets I don't think
a cyclist could have ridden through.
Anyhow there's not a lot of interest in a Cyclist story,
heck we just keep on doing what we do, no biggie :D

I was watching the news from NY this morning, and they made a point of actually saying that a lot of people are riding bikes, since many traffic lights are still out. I did see quite a few in the streets on the coverage this morning.
I saw bikes on the views of the streets.
They were going faster than the traffic.

In Toronto and area there are way more bikes out than you normally see at any given time. It's kinda nice. WE TAKIN' BACK THE STREETS!!! I'm going out now myself. It's an extra long weekend. Cheers!!!

I was one of those cyclists who got out of New York on my $90.00 toy store bike. There were plenty of bike riders but the numbers were very small in comparison to the masses of people who use the trains. I'm writing a full report on the whole matter. It was unbelievable.

I rode 15 miles to my girlfrinds house about 1 hour after it blacked out, it was probably te most fun riding i have ever had. I was able to ride between lanes, either side of the traffic, anywhere. The people in the cars were so pissed looking at me it was hilarous. Good Times!
Hey man, I had even better time walking today. My neighborhood was one of the first to get power, so as soon as gas stations opened the streets were filled with cars and pissed off drivers just standing in looooong lines to get some juice for the car.
