What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful
(spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy.
I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at
least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind
that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don't think
I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could
you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around
200 - 250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won't get
me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married
to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as
I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I
get to her level?

Here are my questions specifically:

- Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars,
restaurants, gyms

-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my
feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)?

- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east
side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have
nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead
gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story
there?

- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment
banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they
hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?

- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for
MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest
way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front
about it. I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't
able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a
nice home and hearth.

THE ANSWER

Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully
about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament.
Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your
bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I
see it.

Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a
cr@ppy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you
suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring
my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my
money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely
that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't
be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning
asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation
accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty
hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in
earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy
and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense
to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case
you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were
to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's
as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.

Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So,
I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful"
as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to
believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K
hasn't found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then
we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation.

With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way.
Classic "pump and dump."
I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of
lease, let me know.

Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes to the bone. I wonder if Miss Beautiful is really just a pretty wrapping on a stale turd...or if the whole thing is an urban legend.

Anyone want my ex-wife's Porsche for $500???:D

When you meet a "drop dead georgeous" woman who is single it means that somewhere out there, there is at least one guy who was sick and tired of taking her ****.

If you actually have a decent Porsche 911 for sale, I'm in the market. Seriously. PM me.:D

I don't plan to pick up golddiggers, just want a (relatively) cheap track car.

Wow. In the Bernard Pivot thread, I declined to answer the "what turns you on/what turns you off" questions, partially because it seemed an odd thing to just throw out there, and partially because I couldn't think of specifics or a way to ord them succinctly at the moment.

Well, I'm inspired. What turns me off: This woman.

Geez, what an awful, hollow husk of a human being. I'm glad I can't afford the *****.

just want a (relatively) cheap track car.I think $500 for a 911, no matter the age or condition, is a bit beyond "relatively cheap." :)

If it's a first-generation 912 in good condition though, I'm interested. Ditto for a 914.

In the Bernard Pivot thread, "what turns you on?" isn't meant in a sexual sense, it's meant more in the "What gets you going, inspires you?" vein.

I just want to add a disclaimer. I am in NO way a misogonist. However, I do believe in calling a woman on her ****.

That said, I love the real women I know (many of whom post here on the regular...if you're lucky they will even post a pic or send you a pm).

But this crap...it's time to make light of this. This plus the "don Juan" thread (thanks Portis) makes me think that modern men have lost something important about our soul...we have become less than we should be.

It's not just the men, dear 'Dipper. :( This woman is sickening, and a perfect example of the diminished female spirit in our culture.

A real woman doesn't offer to ***** herself out. A real woman gives when she wants to and no other time. That is what makes her "real." Like you, I've been impressed with the way so many here conduct themselves, with assurance and total belief in self. This woman in the post has neither of those, if she's even "for real."

KingTermite

I'd think that it couldn't possibly be for real....except that I could almost see my cousin writing that. The same cousin that once said (as we were in hospital waiting for my mom to die) she wanted to meet a doctor at the hospital while she was there. She needed a man with some money because she didn't want to be seen in "icky cars".

edit: This was not a 16 year old girl either...she was probably 26 or so at the time.

Given that she is a depreciating asset, I should be able to afford her in about another 42 years - assuming straight-line depreciation. ;)

According to the guy's response, sounds more like double declining balance depreciation. Heavily front loaded leading to NBV of almost 0 in just a few short years.

My take...its all an expense if you buy her. There's nothing to capitalize  :p

Given that she's 25 and calling herself a "girl", that turns me off right there. I'm thinking, "Bimbo." I'm going to go out on a limb here and surmise she's also looking for some guy to father her children and be her wallet for the next 18+ years.

If that woman had any gumption she would realize that selling herself
quite literally as a sex worker would giver her the income she seeks without
the expectations and control that a husband would seek--she should just
sack up and be honest about the kind of transaction she is seeking--then she
could make the cheddar and have a 25 year old water polo player boyfriend
instead of some dude who works 80 hours a week for his half mil and will
have all the health problems down the road that come with that lifestyle--
as they say those who marry for money end up earning it.

Not worth mounting? Don't tell that to this guy:

Anyway, there is a best-of-craigslist tab just under the events calendar so you don't have to troll around that much. Some of the stuff that gets flagged for best of is hilarious.

+1 My jaw dropped when I read that. I've never been the model/beauty type and had the luxury of assuming I could float by on my looks. I've had to work hard not only to support myself, but to gain attention and respect of others through my intelligence, humor and other attributes (riding my bike is one strength I have for sure - a strong athletic woman is always a plus!). It fasinates me in that "watching a train wreck" kind of way when women, like the one represented in the OP, honestly believe they are something to be gained just by being beautiful. The man's response was hard to swallow for sure but a reality and very witty, might I add. Her beauty will fade (but, hmpf! NOT at 35!) and unless she has garnered a genuine identity and sense of self without it, whe will be truly worthless.

usually when a woman says she is "drop dead gorgeous" it screams "I require insane amounts of attention, and maintenance that makes an track-speced jaguar look like a toyota in comparison"

Sorry, Kaiju. I meant in the superficial beautiful way - my pictures are great because the men in Foo are real and genuine (which is why I post those pics). But by certain standards, I'm a dog. Any other variation is unattractive to that "group."
