Cateye EL 300 upgrade?

I read this forum regularly trying to keep up with what would be a good homebrew setup or upgrade. The thought occurred to me that maybe it's possible to upgrade my 3 or so year old Cateye Opticube EL 300 with some hotter LEDs. Is this possible? if possible is it worth it? I'm fairly handy/mechanical, although some of your projects are beyond me.

Good question! I've got two EL300s and the leds that are out now could make these
compact lights considerably brighter. Any homebrewers out there tried this?
