Okay, it's 05 October 2007 and 75 F. This weekend, it's supposed to hit 80 F. I'm going camping with my sons this weekend and we're taking the tent instead of the pop-up. I spent some time last weekend prepping the winter commuter, thinking the cold and rain are coming soon. Maybe the weather gods got Michigan mixed up with Santa Barbara.

No doubt...high 80's in Chicago through the weekend.
I have to say...I'm NOT complaining. :D
Tell you what ... I'll send some of the snow we got last night to you. OK? :D
92 here today in N. Miss.
Newsflash: Winter doesn't start until December 22nd. That's when it gets REALLY cold around here too, and stays that way till early March. Something cycling has taught me is that the seasons have official start dates for a reason.
Characteristic weather often follows said dates. Right now we are having Fall weather. (mainly because it is Fall.) Additionally, the first post in the "what i wore" thread last Fall was Oct. 4th. We haven't had one yet, which means there haven't likely been many cold rides so far this fall. I made my first entry last Fall on Oct. 12th, which means that was the first day i would have considered cold.

Enjoy it while it lasts, because from what I hear...winter in the midwest ain't pretty.
My dad was born and raised in East Lansing, MI and after he graduated from MSU he bolted, citing winter weather as a factor.

Oh itll get cold, just a LOT later than everywhere else. I mean, cold is relative I suppose, the coldest it got last winter was low 20s.
Just remember ... weather patterns usually go from west to east in North America. I'm sitting here in the west with a little over an inch of snow on the ground ... if you're in the east, IT'S COMING!!

It's going to be one hell of a shock to everybody, when it drops to -10 F below zero in December. just pray that warm temps last that long.:) I've seen temps as low as 28 F just this past August.

Well, regardless of when winter starts where, sleeping outside in a tent in October wearing nothing but shorts and needing no sleeping bag isn't normal for Michigan.
The next "what's going on" weather check will be using the winter commuter to run between the polls on election day. It's never warm enough to use the summer bike and no top layer, and frankly I enjoy going in and having to take off the thick gloves and top layer while the precinct workers shake their heads and pull their sweaters tighter around their shoulders.
So, I'll hold off on any more weather judgments until after 06 November 2007.

I am hoping that we will have a real winter this year. We did last year although it only lasted less than two months.
So in preparation I ordered:
5 pair of Gobi Polypro Undersocks
Seirus Polartec Wind Pro X-Treme Dome Hat
Turtle Fur-The Turtle's Neck
