Wow... I'd say more, but it would probably get me banned from this site.

I expect to be one of the trail stewards building mountain bike trails out in Gateway Park, starting in the next few weeks.

It is my/our devout hope that the more or less continuous presence of physically-fit adults working and riding out there in the more dense areas of the park will bring a margin of security to the folks out there using it. It's had a good effect on Marion Sansom Park at another end of the trail...

IE, no police in the area, and not even able to get to the area in a reasonable time. Could that be part of the problem here?

Here locally, I ride on the Duck Creek trailway- I've never seen a policeman out there unless they were driving down the thing in a patrol car (usually only after somebody's been riding motorized vehicles). But, drive from Garland to Greenville and you're guaranteed to see 3 state troopers in that little stretch.

And thus I'll be carrying next time I ride the trinity alone....jeebus. I'm glad the author got away with "only" a beating.

For a cop, if the offender has left the scene, and the victim doesn't require medical transport, there's really not that big a rush to get there.

It would be nice to see some bike cops out there from time to time, though. Especially with all the public lewdness that seems to go on there at Gateway. As far as I recall, I've never seen one on the TT - there's generally not much for them to do, if they're not evicting winos and I don't think anyone's doing that.

Now that I think about it, I wonder of the gangsta boys thought they were gay bashing? It would kind of make sense, since they didn't rip him off or anything.
