I would not miss it! I knew someone would pick that up. Almost as good as Crede using the toner ink from the printer to dye his hair this past week for the younger look wanting Red Bull in the pop machine.

Looks like it will be a nice steamy day tomorrow. Should help you stay with the elites as tehy do not run well in this weather. Good luck, stay hydrated. Have fun.

Take it easy out there!!! I'm already nervous for the marathoners. I have so many friends running and this weather is just the worst! Hydrate and adjust your pace. Usually in this type of heat that might mean 1:00-1:30 slower per mile.

The detriment of heat is cumulative so it becomes a greater factor as you go on. (and for slower runners even more dangerous) Stay conservative till 20...then as they say...put the hammer down! :D

Crystal

PS...not meaning to be a downer; just concerned about all your hard work and this damned heat. Stupid marathons...so much work....so many things to go wrong on race day. Maddening sport. Ok....rant over. Sending you good vibes! ( I should also say that my best 'thons have been on the worst weather days on hilly courses; go figure!)

I had a friend who decided he would protect his nipples one year in Chicago by putting duct tape on them. It worked and all was well until he had to take it off!:D:eek:

Looks like the race was cut short. At 11:30 race officials decided to route everyone on the course to Grant Park.
Train in the heat since June or July all summer long and then have your big day messed up. That is a bummer!!!

Yeah, total bummer. I just returned from a ride down the to South Shore club and saw lots of ambulances in the Grant Park area on the way back. It's pretty muggy, but right along the lake the breezes are nice.

BTW, hello all - forum n00b here.

Your time was very respectable for the heat. I think on a good weather day you would have blown away your goal times. Finishing on a day like today is quite an accomplishment. Congrats. Crystal

I have bad mojo with the Chicago Marathon. I've qualified for Boston 3 times but never at Chicago. It's just too flat and too many people for me. That said, I do think it's a perfect 'thon for a first timer.

I have had weird experiences...with the Indy Mini...black flagged there once for lightning. They were out picking us up in vehicles and just shut the whole course down about :30 into the race.

Oh, and then the trail 50k that it rained so hard that they decided to rig up a rope to get us up one challenging hill. Mud everywhere...I attempted to go up the hill with the rope between my legs! I recommend that about as much as duct tape for the nipples!:D

Aham totally rocked. His time was great on such a horrible day. Psimet and I were thinking of him as we laboured along the Pumpkin Pedal.

Respect the marathon!!!

Congrats on your finish. I can't imagine running in that heat especially with the full sun for most all of the second half.

The elite runners made for exciting finishes.

Good idea to get back on the bike. Will be great recovery and you've got some awesome fitness from all that 'thon training.

What a crazy marathon for Chicago today.

We were ordered to walk by the police. Both police and firemen were telling us to walk it out to the finish. One cop was joking over the pa system that if he caught us running he would chase us down and arrest us. That lightened the mood out there. I am glad it is over and I will never run that race again.

I was on schedule to finish somewhere around 4:45-5:00 hours myself but I did what I was told and I walked. It hurt like hell to walk those last eight miles but I did it.

it was crazy man. did anyone catch the news last night on the race. they had people dropping like flies, the race director claiming there was water and runners stating the opposite. i must have been in front of most of this maddness. there was water and gatorade and tons of awesome volunteers. i spotted a few people needing medical attention, but there werent dropping left and right.

near the end i did hear Chicago's finest proclaim the race was over and we should walk. i didnt get it. i mean i only had 2 miles to go and people were still running, volunteers still working, and fans still cheering. it was confusing as hell.

what an experience to say the least. once again thanks to my BFNIC gang for the good wishes and thoughts. now, where is that bike of mine?? :)

I think they ran out of water at the second aid station. I don't know if the volunteers didn't have enough cups filled as people came up to them or just ran out of water. The first aid station past the halfway point had no water and gatorade. People opened up their business' and were trying to fill up gallon jugs in the back and bring them to the front. I was around mile 18 or 19 when they cancelled the race. People were dropping all around me. All you heard were sirens. There were people walking and puking and then falling. It was a really surreal experience. Towards the end of the race there was plenty of fluids so I don't know if some station were inadequately supplied or what but it was a bizarre.

That was one of the major points of discussion on "848" on Chicago Public Radio this morning. I missed the discussion, but that is what they were going to talk about.

....that and how bad the Cubs suck.

At least the Bears won last night. Yay. That means we won 6 more months of cheese products and beer.

^^^^ run this weekend..............all i can think is OUCH :)

recovery wise it is going well. lots of rest. three days so far and maybe another one today. i really want to get back on the bike, but with the colder weather finally rolling in and shorter days, who knows. i will run two or three yet this week, maybe a short ride, and then ramp it up from there. i plan to run the Gobbler Hobbler 10k on 11/10 in Oswego, a 5k here or there, and riding when ever the weather and time permits.

as for the bike i-355 it doesnt really appeal to me, but who knows. later.
