So building up a winter bike, I am planning on running some 700x30 'cross tires. Can I shoehorn those onto a M13II or should I up it to the CR18?
IIRC, my rims are the m13II, and I run 28s, no problem.
i'm sure you can mount tires all the way up to 35 or 38 on a 19mm wide rim, but it isn't optimal. there's an article written by sheldon that discusses this. for what it's worth, the CR18 and rhyno lite are both pretty wide and sturdy; if i knew i'd want fat tires all the time i would definitely run them. they're about half again as wide as a typical road rim, though, so make sure you have chainstay clearance.

I've run 38's on my 19mm rim. No problem. Look at cross country mtb's. They run 2" tires on 24mm rims all the time.
they are close to the size of an ma40 and I have run 37s on them so ....

hmm...well maybe I'll just run some m13's then....I like them...pretty good price to quality ratio.
