hey i'm building out this 59cm schwinn conversion and i'm trying to decide on one aspect of the paint.

where the paint fades from black to blue. should i leave it as a fade or should i mask it off and make it a solid line? i'm torn either way but leaning to masking off the lines and making it clean. the rest of the bike is going to have chrome bars, miche cranks. wheelset rims are going to be black, tires are going to be black.

the fork (not pictured obviously) is going to mimic whatever i do on the frame.

give me your opinions because i value the opinion of random dudes on the intarwebs!

Mask it and make it a clean line. I don't think gradient/fades work unless its over a much bigger area (like, the entire length of the top tube).

I like the fade personally, but some people might lean towards a clean solid line. The question is, what do you like? You're the one that is going to look at the paint job.

Put your rear wheel in and mask it so that the lines correspond with the rim (if that makes any sense)

I like the fade and am planning on doing the same on a few of my bikes when I tear them down for repainting over the winter.

What kind of frame is that? Those dropouts look stamped. (I know it's a Schwinn.)

a clean line with a small contrasting pinstripe would deff be the shizz.

black and blue fade looks like a bruise.

Are you going to have a top tube protector?

Def gradual fade. Do the all forks in the lighter blue.

Not my bike (but same frame):

IMO the fade should have been 3x as gradual. It works though because of nice contrast between red and white. Still, you can do better than this.

I think the fade would be tight, but you would have to have a pro painter or a art student of some type to get the right effect .

Although it is after the fact that you already put the black paint down, i think a metalic black plus metalic blue with the fade would of looked very good.

That fade kind of sucks but a line will look even worse. Really though it doesn't matter because the whole paint job will be scratched to **** after a few months anyway.
