just so everyone knows, spire had a serious accident the other day. he has been working as a bike messenger all summer and, on one of the nastier bits of road in montreal -- the pine/park interchange -- he collided with another cyclist who burned a light on a crossing street.

spire has some serious bruising on his face, as well as fractures to his cheek and around his eye. he is in pain, and hasn't looked at himself in the mirror, but he's okay. he's recuperating at his family's country house in bromont.

he was, of course, wearing a helmet. one thing about spire is that he's a pretty safety conscious rider, even for a courier. probably saved his life.

I'm sure all on this forum wish him a quick recovery. We seem to be dropping like flies lately. :(

thanks for the update Velo.

i had a major mountain bike crash in Spring '99 -- flew 15 feet in the air, landed on my head and slid 10 feet on my face on gravel, braking my nose and basically ripping my lower lip almost off as well as chipping 2 teeth and loosing a lot of skin on my face - fortunately my helmet took the initial impact and it all healed and only me and my mother can tell that i look any different!

Spire, i wish you a fast and full recovery. hopefully you can get back on the bike some time soon.
