Since I just broke down and ordered, I will post here...I needed something with some real light, not a toy like my light & motion vega. So I'll try the Cygolite TridenX (Li-Ion version too!). My point is that is cheap right now at Performance (as much as I dont like the walmart of bike shops). Marked down to $319.99, with 20% off coupon through 10/5/05 coupon code 6002384 (they emailed it out). $255.99 for a supposedly ridiculously bright LED sounds good to me.

PS they say they are out of stock but due in 10/5/07 (yeah right). Either way for this price I can wait a week.

Please get beam shots of 3, 5, and 10 meters when you get the light. In the mean time figureout how to work the camera with flashlights to see if you can take a photo of a flashlight light the best that you can to represent the light you're seeing.

Still, I would love to see how this TridenX stacks up to the DualCross Pro and a Fenix L2D CE standard.

I ordered one with that special deal too...I'll test it against my P3D CE and P3D RB100 when I get it. For the pictures do you think just taking a picture of the light shining at a white wall is better, or would you like some outside shots? Also, any suggestions for taking good comparison pictures? I'm gonna practice with the P3D's now and see what I can come up with.

I think a white wall with some sort of measuring tape, so we can see light beam width and intensity of spread. It may help to take the pictures with a constant apeture and shutter speed eg. manual mode.

Both senarios is best. Although if you can only do one senario the outside shot in realworld is preferred both on pitch black area and in lit street area. Hey if you have the time I would love to see all the shots because it'll help everyone. Some are road riders. Some are trail riders. Some are both thus why I asked for said shots.

In the mean time can I see a shot difference between the P3D CE and the P3D RB100 at 3, 5, 10 meters? 3 meters I prefer indoors as I would like to see the beam pattern of both. I have heard the CE is tighter RB100 but I have to see it to see how it looks. 5 and 10 meters outdoors please.

I'm just saving up for either a L2D or P3D or both once I get enough funds. Right now I'm tight with the money in reno but I have narrowed down what I'm looking at but would like to see beamshots to help narrow down more. Thanks in advance.

Your going to be waiting a long time, Cygolite doesn't believe in revealing state secrets, so many of us on the forum have e-mailed them for this data and they haven't responded. I think if their lumen rating was a selling point then they would have already used it in their marketing like Lupine or Dinotte does. Don't get me wrong I like the Cygolite dual cross design (I have 2 units), but their lack of transparency with the data just frustrates me.

They claim "brightness of HID" but don't give specifics. Should be brighter than the DC Pro which is 300 lm IIRC.

I'm still hoping to hear a lumen rating for this light. Anyone?


Just speculating, but 450 lumens, actual lumens. Probably as bright as about 4 L2D CE's. 3 on turbo, the other on high.

Well unfortunately my camera doesn't have a "manual" mode...I took these beamshots in auto mode with no flash...probably the best I can do unless somebody knows a way to activate some kind of manual mode on a kodak c743. These are ok for comparing beam shape, but as you can see the camera adjusts for brightness so they pretty much all look the same as far as light output, even though they aren't.

(notice how it looks like it is the same brightness as the other photos, meaning these photos are useless for comparing brightness...pretty much just a beam shape comparison). The bright spots on either end are the P3D's spot areas. The Fenixes do throw a brighter spot, at the expense of having poor side spill.

I'm happy with the Cygolite for what it is. It provides at least as much light as both of my Fenixes (rated at 160 lumens for the CE and 200 lumens for the RB100) in a much better cycling-specific beam pattern, has a longer runtime, and is very lightweight. I'm currently using it bar mounted with one of the P3D's, and using the second P3D as a helmet light.

I wish I could see a Dinotte 600L in person and compare it to the Cygolite. On a side note, I just got my Dinotte taillight and I am extremely happy with it.

How is the flood ability? I'm looking for a bar light that will light up the road & some of the shoulders on a two lane road for road biking.

Hi there. I'm new to the forum but just got my tridenx in the mail. I live in Germany right now and its getting dark around 4:30. Haven't actually had a chance to compare the light to my friend's niterider HID but kind of think it won't be AS bright. However, its still really bright and when you weight the pros its pretty sweet. I got the lith-ion and its REALLY light. The battery is super small. Also, having the 4 different light settings is great too. I plan on using the lowest settings for the climbs and the high beam for downhill. True, its not as bright a spot in the center, but i think its a good trade-off having an even spill on both sides; plenty for trail or road. I emailed cygolite about the interchangeable lenses and they said they don't have them yet. I'll post later after I've had a chance to compare to some friends' lights.
