Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Mercier Kilo tt or Felt TK2?

I'm looking into buying my first fixie and it seems ebay is a good place to go. I'm debating between the Mercier Kilo tt and the Felt TK2, which I know is comparing apples to oranges. But the Felt is about $200 more than the Mercier, but without a doubt is a much higher-end bike. I'm looking to use the bike for getting around the city.

So, considering the price, would it be better to go with the Felt or the Mercier? Is the Felt pretty unsuited to street use? Also, is it much more likely to attract theft than the Mercier?

Where do you find a complete Felt TK2 for $500?

I think the Mercier is probably a better starter bike, especially if you're going to be locking up daily, and are worried about theft. There's no doubt that the Felt is flashy, and has multiple carbon bits that would attract a bike thief. I think AL and carbon are pretty durable, but if you're just starting out riding fixed, you're liable to crash and **** up something expensive (more expensive than steel, at least).

But if you can get a TK2 in your size for $500, I would go for it. That's a really good deal!

Felt is amazing. But, it's flashy, has a carbon steerer, and an alum frame. If this is your first fix and you're even considering between the two -- get the Mercier. It's a cheap beater bike. You will crash, and you will **** up. It's something you can lockup and not have to worry too much about.

So I'm saying the price on those Felts will go high enough that it becomes a non-issue for the OP, so, OP should get a Kilo TT and have lots of fun.

Definitely, those bikes are certain to at least double in price, over the cost of the Kilo TT.

Although, if you're in the market for a Felt TK2, all these bikes coming up for sale at once should provide you a good bargain.

Yea those are good deals man if you can get them at that price..

But i ride a Felt TK2 and there mad toe overlap... And that not something to be overlooking.... its something i deal with everytime i ride. You even have to compensate when track standing at lights.

And fora newbie id say it be a big pain for you or eating **** a good amount of times.

Its not like its a fixable thing either. I ride Sugino 75s at 165 length and i ride RX1 pedals w/ small cages. And i still get at least an INCH overlap. That means no sharp turning.

If you can get the felt for under 600$ go for it. but to reiterate what others have said, its flashy as all hell, i would be worried locking that up for extended periods of time, just do what everyone else does and get a kilo TT, and upgrade as stuff breaks, and you will crash it, i've had my crashes on my first season riding fixed than any other. i bet the felt would have died in when i got hit by a car where my steel frame now has a big dirty dent, but she still rides like a dream,

under $1000 is possible It looks like th 08 solves the fatal flaw(for actual track racers) of the previous ones and they were selloing for $1000 last winter.

If the bike is going to be treated roughly the mercier is probably a better option even if he could get the felt for $500.

Also, in that auction is this person attempting to say that this bike is a 2008 with the 2007 paint or have I misread? I think I smell a rat.

what price and parts will you get that fetish built for?
if thats alright and you don't mind those gross decals, then that looks like a nice alu frame.

i'd still grab the kilo for locking up all day and tomfoolery and carelessness, anyone have pics of grape soda kilos ?
