These dinky Trophies.

One for 5th for the overall, the other for 4th in the final race of the year, which was today.

Sometimes I do question my sanity.

No cash???

What the hell, at least the Belgies used to give us prizes to 50th place sometimes. Paid for the bakery stop on the ride home.

Clearly time for a career change.

Does the next photo in the sequence show them going out the window?

Hey, you have memories to share and stories to tell.
The hard part is finding people who will listen.

There was a BFer named botto
And 'Race til You Bleed' was his motto
He raced and he raced and he chased and he chased
And finally wound up with squatto.

I'd rather have the trophies than the paltrey 'prize money'.
Average prize for placing in some dumb race: $25.
Being able to point at the bookshelf and say 'I'm not DFL, this
proves it' : PRICELESS.

Pcad, that was possibly the best post I've ever seen on bf.

botto, you can belittle it as much as you want but getting a trophy is pretty darn cool and will make for good stories years from now.

Is there a cheesy plastic trophy for that? Like what they gave botto maybe?

Way back in the late 80's I first started racing in the "citizens" catagory we recieved cash at every race for the top 3 finishers. Enough to cover entry fees and the stop at BK on the way home. Along came CAT 5 and the cash rewards disappeared.

correct.

if truth be told, i can recall being p|ssed off when they organizers for the Lou Maltese memorial decided to give cash instead of trophies for the P/1/2/3 race. Would have been proof of my one of my bigger achievements.

Move than I've gotten.

I didn't even get any pointless free schwag this year... Except for a box of Tetley's decaf tea... Decaf?!

Tris give better random free crap - Came out of this year with two water bottles, a hideous yellow T-shirt, a mug, and several packets of energy drink / gels.

Good show dude. Who won that year? That's the hotly contested trophy circuit race in a large amateur racing center (I'd say NY City qualfies for that label).

This proves botto is (or was at one time) very fast.

You should put your collection of crushed souls on your trophy shelf. Much more rewarding for reflection, IMO.

Race promoters couldn't afford do dish out the cash. Most went to the USCF. Just a guess.

And, looking through your window, it looks like a lovely day outside. Go to Vondelpark and have a nice relaxing stroll.

USCF BASTRDS. Like H. Goering in WWII hoarding the art treasures of Europe in some Bavarian Chalet. They don't call them Road Nazis for nothing.

For the first few years after Cat 5 was created, the rules prohibited giving cash or any prize of value in Cat 5 races. It had nothing to do with the promoters. It was mandated by the rules.

Smart really - discourages people from not upgrading.

Congrats, botto.

To me, personally, those trophies are much better than money. In fact, to me it's not even close.
