Southern California - Feel Good thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I started contemplating about this year, and the fact that I feel really good about what I have accomplished so far. I know the year is not over yet, and there are still some things we all want to accomplish. However, I'd like to see how everyone else feels, regarding what they set out to do on Jan 1, and how they feel up to now (being 10 months later).
For me, I couldn't be more proud this year. My goal was to do the triple crown, and I did that. Not only that, after hooking up here, I found so many new friends on BF, and you all have pushed me to a higher standard. Mid-way through my goal, I found the century-a-month challenge. I feel good that I have done a century a month since Feb, and I have this group to thank for that.
Thank you. :D:D

I've had better days! But the one thing this year that makes me feel great is that I've been able to keep Gina out there riding on a fairly consistent basis! She's been riding with me for over 10 years. But after a 2 or 3 years slacker period, she's back!:D

So would you say you went from a 5 pre-BF, to an 8 post-BF? j/k
I didn't have any goals for myself - just to enjoy riding my bike. I wanted to finish my first century sometime within the year just to say that I did it. I figured I'd attempt the Seattle-to-Portland double, and bail and find a hotel if I couldn't finish. I finished, and felt a sense of self-accomplishment.
The year has gone very well for me. After many years off the bike, I started back up at the end of last summer, finished my first century this summer, and should make my mileage goal with room to spare. Best of all, I can easily see cycling for a very long time. Feels great!
I have already exceeded my goals for the year. I guess I set low goals. But they were the same goals as last year and I didn't make them last year.
So anyway I am just going to sit on the couch and drink beer the rest of the year so it will be a challange to have the same goals next year............
NO WAY did I work this hard to give in so easily. I am doubling my goal for next year. BFers I am going to need some help! I am going to try to make the OCT 14th ride.

This yr my milage is low due to second job but the miles I did get in where spent with friends. Which makes riding funner for sure. I've done GMR more times this yr then I ever could in the past. And still want to go back up a few more times before it gets cold up there. Prolly my only regret for this yr is not much time on the MTB which is weird for me saying that LOL. Can't wait to see what happens next yr for me on the bikes.

I haven't met any of my 2007 goals and I don't see that happening anytime soon; but I still feel pretty good.
There were two rides that made me feel I have progressed. The Tour de Poway century where I finished 30mins faster than last year, as well as Grand Tour DM/GT Lite where I felt better up Latigo and all through the ride.

I always set very modest goals, then fail to achieve them.

I swam a mile yesterday :)
I set a goal of 3500 miles for this year, I didn't even make the goal of 3K that I had for last year, but figured this would be a better year, and so far it has been. I've got 202 miles to make my mileage goal for this year and hope to make 4K by Dec. 31st.
I have had a great time meeting and riding with many of the BF crew.
Everyone from this forum that I've had the good fortune to meet and
ride with has left a positive mark on my life. For that I would like to
thank you.
Have I met my goals? not really, but the only one that matters is
I am enjoying myself, enjoyng a good bike ride, and that life is good.
so,
I FEEL GOOD
PS: besides, life beats the alternative....

That's the whole point of this all, isn't it? Enjoying yourself ... You said it well :)
My goal was to go through a whole year without setting goals.
I am proud to say that I succeeded.

I've been television-free for over a year :)
If I could get over internet porn I could do something constructive

My 2007 got off to a very slow start due to some medical issues (not going to "TMI" you!), so I worked the Butterfield Double, missed the Solvang Spring Double completely, finishing my first double of the year at Hemet, with my 2nd longest Hemet time ever.
Then I rode the Eastern Sierra double, at about the same pace as last year, so I was feeling better. Grand Tour Highland was next, pretty easy, and actually a tad faster than 2006. Then I decided (what was I thinking?) to try the Mt. Tam Double, and that was v.difficult but I did finish (17 hours, 8 min.)!
So now I'm signed up for the Solvang Fall Double, and if I finish that one under the time limit I'll have my Gold Thousand Mile Club for the fourth straight year, thereby accomplishing my basic goal. Still short of the 7 doubles I rode in 2005 and 2006, but considering the late start, not too bad.
So Ron, to answer your question, yes I feel pretty good about my cycling in 2007, but still have a feeling that (if not for the late start) it could have been better!
Goals for 2008: King of the Mountains using Mulholland and Heartbreak as doubles (I've never ridden either one), and then Breathless Agony of course. Plus I would like to try the Central Coast Double, since it should be do-able for me, yet I've never tried it before.
Also, even though it's not MY goal . . . 2008 will be the first Triple Crown Year for Mr. Beanz!

Does Mr. Beanz know this?

Yes he does . . . but I've forgotten what thread it was in, so just going by memory here. I've been trying to talk him into trying a double for years, and finally he said 2008 would be his year. Hopefully he remembers . . .
